Iv'e heard people being called "Informants" on the radio a lot recently.

Is there a difference between an"Informer" and an "Informant"

Any coneheads out there know the difference....????

    I like to be well informed:D :D

An informer is someone who sytematicly provides the police with information, usually as part of an exchange. The word has a negative connotation.

Anyone telling the police something can be an informant. I understand the offical in a hospital that provides information to a registrar for births and deaths is an Informant. Both have positive connotations.
