I have seen this term bandied about a bit and was wondering exactly what it meant? So rather than google it I decided to be a lazy basta'd and ask here....
    ...
    ...what is fold equity?

It's the expected return from a pot based on your opponent(s) folding to your bet.

If there's $1000 in the pot and you bet $1000 with an estimation that there's a 90% chance of winning because your oppponents fold then there is $900 of fold equity.

Usually it's bandied about as a synonyn for "chance that he'll fold".

I.E. I thought there was folding equity = There's was a chance I would win by his fold.

Obviously it's not easy to accurately put figures on it.

    does this mean:

if you have a drawing hand that you believe has a 40% chance of winning if seen to the river, and you also believe that there is a 20% that a pot size bet will cause your opponent to fold; then you have an estimated 60% chance of winning?

20% of the time, he folds and you win.
80% of the time, he plays on and you win here 40% of that time. 40% of 80% = 32%.

Overall, you win the hand 52% of the time.
