    Just got a maxtor 300GB hard drive, created partition on it, asked did i want to use full disk space and set to active, said yes. went to use it and it says the parttition is only 127GB!! Don't think thats right some how. any suggestions on how i get my full 300. any ideas welcomed..

    Yep, search this forum for "127GB".

    It's a common problem that has been diagnosed and solved here several times.

    I'm not being smart, just helping others to help themselves ;)

    first off you wont get 300 GB's as the filesystem itself occupies space.

    Chances are your PC\OS are not running in whats called 48bit LBA mode. Long story short, its not seeing the capacity of the drive.

    What spec is your PC?
    What version of windows do you have and what service packs?
    What filesystem did you format with? FAT32 or NTFS?

    think i'm making some progress, was looking at previous posts here and they had links to helpful sites. thanx all.
    having to install SP2 and an app that i got from maxtor's website. so fingers crossed
