Now this one I can't decide, imagine two of these bump into to each other, Tigers are marginally bigger but nothing much of an advantage where as some male lions can be huge also....

One on one it would have to be the tiger. Much bigger and stronger. I saw a program once where a tiger firstly went into a river and took prey from the jaws of a crocodile and secondly spotted a leopard and proceeded to kill and eat it. Where would they stand if one of them bumped into a polar bear?

Ok I think the Tiger would win one on one, but in the Savanah teh Lion would probably win, however if there is water the Lion has no chance!!!

Have you ever seen a Liger....its a cross breed between a Lion and a Tiger...they grow to a massive size as the growth inhibitors dont work when the breeds are crossed..however they cant produce offspring kinda like the mule syndrome, by the way Id say a tiger would win over a lion.

I think they'd probably sniff each other's butts, decide they weren't in competition for the same mates then amble off in search of something to shag, or if they'd done that earlier, just go to sleep in the sun.

    Liger btw:

Female lions carry the growth inhibitors, but male tigers do. A liger has lion father /tiger mother.

Although lions and tigers are very similar, lions are faster, stronger, in some respects, and better hunters.

Lol. And then superman would whip him. Thats it then. Let all species fight it out and watch superman come in and kick all their asses.

Pick your subspecies first - are we talking the Amur tiger, which is the largest of the big cats, or the Sumatran tiger, which is the smallest of the tiger subspecies?

What of the lions - North African, South African or desert species? Sizes vary hugely across the range.

The outcome of any encounter would vary depending on which of each cats subspecies you were pitting against each other.

the tiger would win because he/she woulod have to, coz they are more rare thus would have to keep the species going

Me versus a kitten is also hypothetical but the facts remain the same.

There is no debate in this one.

    1. tiger is bigger and more powerful

    2. tiger is way more agile. can climb trees. has a huge leap.

    3. male tigers hunt and are faster.

    4. they have a more powerful bite force proven by discovery channel.

    5. bigger teeth

    6. it was laready decided on that programm on discovery

only thing Male lion has goin for it is that it is more used to battles defending its territory..tigers tend to avoid each other...if they can even find each other cos theres fack all left

Tigers are solitary hunters, lions are pack. Although hypothetical, the tiger would probably have more stomach for a one to one battle.

Doesn't the male lion sleep for 20 hours a day while the females hunt. His job is to defend the pride and shag the females. (I really want to be a lion)

Don't know if any of you subscribe to National Geographic magazine, but a few months ago there were some amazing photos, taken from the back of an elephant, of an angry tigress attacking *the elephant* and the riders on its back! Yes, a tiger attacking an elephant! Amazing photos, if anyone can locate them online. I gotta go with tiger over lion here.

Just watched that video, tiger wins that fight from what I saw, it seemed far more agressive, the lion was just about defending itself. It was against a female lion though, maybe the male would put up a better fight?

Sh!t thats pretty disturbing actually, that lion looked pretty distressed....the tiger was seriously in control in that situation..but it looked like the lion was put into the tigers enclosure and was just looking to get out...might be different if she was defending her cubs in her own territory and the tiger was thrown in there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,676 ✭✭✭✭smashey

The lion was bricking it. Liked the way the tiger just slapped it down when it got too cheeky.

Tigers are the daddies. As toffeapple pointed out below, they are in a different league physically over lions. I've seen lions in Kenya and they are lazy layabouts. I met Tony the Tiger in America and he was one big ol' lively astute kat. No contest.

This is from the Clyde Beatty film "The Big Cage" and shows an actual fight between the two
In the story, Beatty tames the cats and continues in the tradition of 'the show must go on'. Privately Beatty admitted even he had no possible hope of separating the big cats and the lion went on to maul the tiger to death.

For over 50 years the scene was thought by viewers to be a well-staged dramatic scene, but is now recognised as a documentary showing an actual killing.
