Anyone beta tested MS OS Vista?

Microsoft is due to release their new operating system called Vista later this year. Has anyone served as a Vista beta site? Minimum and recommended hardware requirements? Hardware and software problems with Vista? Good things about Vista? After release, would you recommend waiting to see if the new OS has bugs, patches, etc., before loading? Or be an early innovator because of enhanced value?

I've had it working on p4 1.7ghz 256mb without problems (aero not enabled).

It works very well with Aero on 9800 pro, and in fact, the ATI drivers that come with it will probably have been the most tested.

What's the story with these Beta releases?

Do the people who help out get to keep the OS and not have to pay for it when it's finally released (as a thank you for submitting reports etc.)?

Where do you apply to become a Beta tester for Vista?

Subscribers to Microsoft's premium MSDN developers network (at a certain level) get all Microsoft operating systems plus betas, and many other MS products either gratis or at a reduced price.

It's not a bad OS, had a few problems with Beta 1 but the latest release is working fine :) ( IE7 has a few bugs in it )

don't think that will surprise anyone here :p

*i know beta software is generally buggy. :v:...

*EDIT* quick note, i installed IE7 and tbh i'm liking it, it won't tempt me away from firefox but at least i know that people who will still use IE will know what i'm saying when i say open a new tab. "a new what...?"

the quick tab is a nice feature but i wouldn't really see myself using it.

one thing i did find amusing was the search engine toolbar up on the top right is defaulted to google with msn search as an alternative. you'd think then the first start up page

would be a link to opera or firefox, kind of shooting yourself in the foot hey microsoft?

*EDIT2* it's so like firefox i'm even trying to do my mouse gestures in it.
