Opened up my browser this morning to find that it had changed its homepage to...

    http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

That didnt really bother me, just changed it back... but i realised that my bookmarks have been erased completely, i even went into the Program Files and the Firefox folder and it was gone from there too.

    Anyone?

    Turn off automatic updates.

    Go into C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Open up your profile folder, and

And open bookmarks.html, if thats correct then just import it back into Firefox, else search inside the bookmarkbackups folder.

    Turned off automatic updates also.

Very same has happened to me today also. Mine was fine this morning but havre just logged on and opened FF and my homepage is firefox and all my bookmarks are gone.

If i do a restore, maybe back a day or two would that retreive them.

Same happened to me a while back. But if I go here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\MyUsername\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\roithag7.default\bookmarkbackups

Then I find backups for the 31st, 29th and 28th of January. I didn't enable any backup settings.

I tried the same thing... no success.

I did a complete computer search for 'bookmark' and it came up with an old bookmark file i made when transferring all important data from our old pc to the current one... got a few back. Still, i had about 40 or 50 great bookmarks made... gone.

Does it not sound like he's changed profile maybe, did a profile box thing come up? That happened to me before.

Try going to "Run" and type "firefox -p" and check out your profile manager. Oh yeah make sure firefox isn't running when you do.

Funny that, that folder was in mine also with the exact same dates. I was able to recover mine from there.

in future maybe consider using a bookmark synchronisation plugin. There's a good one called abstractmouse. It stores a public or private copy of your bookmarks on their server and allows to to synch to it using any number of computers - http://www.abstractmouse.com/

Saves you the bother of backing up your bookmarks
