Hmmm , I played on Monday night and for the previous weeks/months , no problems , changed nothing . Came on Tuesday night and it doesn't seem to work anymore .

I join TS , then join a server , once I am in the server , maybe 30 seconds or so , the screen freezes , so does the pc , it seems , then after about 30 seconds I am kicked off the server and get the "your connection to the server has been lost " , at the time of the lock up I am also kicked off TS .

I have checked my ping's and tracerts and they all seem fine . I have tried playing other games online and no problems there . I have tried updating punkbuster manually , no difference . I have tried uninstalling BF2 and then reinstalling and no joy .

So I am at a loss now , no idea what to try next but as I have stated above , I have changed absolutely nothing between Monday night and Tuesday night .

Anyone have any other ideas ?

    John

Weird that. But you aren't disconnected from the net?

How about you open a DOS window and use ping with the -t at the end so it'll keep on pinging until you stop it. You could output the results to a file too.

    ping server_address -t >ping.txt

Go into TS, launch BF2 and see what happens....

    Ping statistics for 85.236.100.7:

    Packets: Sent = 242, Received = 241, Lost = 1 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

    Minimum = 28ms, Maximum = 36ms, Average = 29ms

    Control-C

In or around the middle of that there is one singular "request timed out"

And did you get kicked from BF2 also? I wouldn't have thought that 1 packet would make that much of a difference really. I'll see what else I can find...

I'm guessing that without booting up BF2, you don't get kicked from TS after 30 seconds?

It's always worth updating Punkbuster too (doesn't always happen automatically) though I doubt it's that.

    Yup

there is a strong possibility that you will stumble accross my threads on other forums as I have posted and searched on EA's forums and PlanetBattlefield forums

indeed and can also stay on TS while playing other games

I tried this , all thats left to try at this stage is a format , but I am holding off on that till tomorrow to see if anyone can come up with a less drastic measure .

same thing (kinda) happened to me the other night. I was joining a game via xfire (following a friend who was already on a server). I right clicked mates name, selected 'join game' and it would boot up bf2 but give me the same 'your connection has been lost' error. Turned out it was trying to connect to the server with an OFFLINE account i had created for playing singleplayer. Maybe delete any offline acounts you have and jsut leave your MP acc?

    Nah , I don't have any offline a/c's

Hmmmm , very interesting , I could connect and play on this one , no problem .
While on the server I asked what was so different about that server and they said it was to do with legal cd keys .

    Thing is , I have a very legal copy of BF2 .

Yeah, I found that server in All Seeing Eye.

It's an unranked server that's not running punkbuster and also allows keys generated by a keygen it seems. Now normally if there was something wrong with your cdkey then you'd get kicked even before you managed to connect to the server.

Though you can reenter it using an .exe in the /support/ folder. Make sure you have the actual key before you run the .exe though as the first thing it does is delete it from the registry.

    BTW, I'm ptegan9 @ forum.eagames.co.uk

    This server :

    IWC BF2 Server 217.115.114.5:16567

Is an Irish unranked server with PB turned off but I'm pertty sure that it checks for fake keys.

It's just a question of trying different things until you see what works and what doesn't work I guess....

This could be useful. Just set it up in the console.

    PB_LogToFile [0=no, 1=yes]

When set to 1, PunkBuster will log activity to the pbcl.log file; the default is 0 which means only errors are logged.

yeah , I can connect to and stay on that server aswell , no problem . I tried another reinstall and could stay on our own for about 5 minutes the first time before being kicked , but after that it was back to the 30 seconds

You're sure that when you update PunkBuster manually after each reinstall that it's actually doing it?

Can you post what version of PB you have with the PB_VER command that you type in the console.
