make sure that the TV is on the PC channel if you hit the AV button on the remote it will cycle through AV1 AV2 and then the PC. Also on the laptop make sure that you switch it to the external vga port usually its an option on the function key should be a key with a little monitor symbol on it. Thats all you should have to do to get an input on the TV. Setup one of those Philips TV before and had no problems connecting it to a pc. hope this helps.

You also have to make sure the laptop is outputting through its VGA output (instead of to the laptop screen). There's usually a key combo you need to hit (FN + F8 on Dell's). It says "lcd / crt" in blue (meaning you need to press the FN button with it).

The cables / connectors all look good.

Edit: Oh, and the resolution needs to be low enough to work on a TV...start with 720x576 and work from there. If your tv is HiDef ready then you can have it at 1280x720 for deliciousness.

I've just tried a monitor using the VGA plug and when I press FN&F4 together its works fine so it must either be the cable or the adaptor? I think I'm using the wrong cable, I'm using a Dvi-d at the moment and it says in the manual I should be using a Dvi-i cable. Hers's the differance http://bluejeanscable.com/store/dvi/
Can someone confirm this before I go buy another cable.

If you read that article you linked it says DVI-D cannot be used for analogue video, which is what the standard VGA socket on your laptop is outputting.

Unfortunately, if you read the specs for your TV it only lists DVI-D, which gives the impression that it can only take in digital video from a PC - this is not possible with your laptop.

However, what you could use is the s-video TV out on your laptop (the yellow socket to the left of the VGA one) and plug that into the s-video socket on your TV. It will be nowhere near as good as VGA output (especially since your TV can do HD resolutions) - it'll only output 576-line PAL or 480-line NTSC. It'll be OK for playing videos, but don't expect to be able to do web browsing or anything with small text.

    Yeah, that's a bit confusing O_o
I assume by "analogue PC" and "digital PC" they mean analogue or digital video from a PC, but I don't know why it says DVI-I for your model if it can't do any analogue signals anyway.
