Marvel’s Iron Man is the one I’ve been waiting for, But who should play Tony Stark in the movie.
According to IESB.net, the Australian director Alex Proyas (“I Robot”, “The Crow”) might be at the helm of the big screen version of Marvel comics Movie and Tom Cruise could be the Man in the Iron mask.
Hope so, as I think he’s the right one to do the job, ''what do you guys think!

Wouldn't want somebody as big as Tom Cruise as Tony Stark. He'd prob have to much say in the script. if they do it right it could be one of the better superhero movies.

It won't be Cruise simply for the fact that he likes his movie posters to contain nothing other than his big grinning mug. Considering IronMan is most famous for his yellow metal mask the two really just don't go together. Strange kinda logic I know, but there you go.

Indeed , and it was for this reason that he refused to be in War of the Worlds, as they wanted to use burning globe held in aliens hand.

    And don't forget Magnolia..........oh...............wait.

And for the films that did have his daft head on the poster who cares, he has done some decent stuff, and he is a draw. Why pay him 20million to be in your film and not milk that image?????

    It just makes sense.

I reckon he'd be alright as Stark.

Besides, they could do a half and half to keep him happy!!!!

Yes, well done. Two exceptions in the past 10 years (one that was put together by an even BIGGER player than cruise and and other of which he was barely in anyway). You could even throw EyesWideShut in there if you like and it only took his WIFE to shunt him off centre on the poster for that one!

Don't deny that and that is exactly my point. Who is the star of the movie? Iron Man or Tom Cruise?
    It just makes sense.
No what makes sense is having Tom Cruise in big macho ego projects and romance movies that can draw women & and teenage boys who don't know any better. Movies where IS the movie and where he can show us his full range smiles for 2 hours. Not a film where he spends half the time behind a mask (or more likely not even on screen and replaced by a CG iron man).

I'm pretty sure there was another War of the Worlds poster with Tom Cruise's big face as he was holding Dakota Fanning.

I have no huge problems with the Cruiser myself... but I really wouldn't want to see him as Tony Stark....

Nicolas Cage was attached to this at one stage... I'm not sure if he'd be right either. Hopefully he's happy enough doing Ghost Rider.

How about John Cusack as Tony Stark? Or perhaps even Cillian Murphy?

I wonder if they'll deal with the topic of Stark's alcoholism in the film.

Dude , i only mentioned those two because they are both films that he has done at the "height" of his fame that were bucking the trend. Most of the films that were capitalising on his face were really at the start of his career, when it was all smiles and sex appeal that was bringing in the parts.

People sat around and doubted him in The Last Samurai ( i know i did ) and i think he did pretty damn well, the same thing happened with Collateral ( Cruise as a bad guy, yeah.......right!!! ) and i think he did a fine job there also.

Simple fact is that Cruise has shown some ( do i say it ) daring adversity to the norm, and to what people had him pigeonholed as. The Last Samurai was always going to be a difficult film to sell to a mainstream audience being about concept that would completely escape most people ( the struggle to accept yourself and the realization for all Samurai that you can only know you had lived your whole live with honour when that life was over ).

All in all a good branching out and some surprises.

Besides, depending on what becomes of Iron Man we seem to be assuming it will be one of the very few comic book to film conversions that is actually good ( and while i really hope this is the case i fear otherwise ).

Let him try, he can't do it any worse than any one else!!!

you'd need some one who could pull off that moustache on the big screen , i'd say errol flynn would be perfect , the fact that he's dead 50 years might count against him , that only leaves ned flanders and tom selleck ................

Cruise would look like a prat with a Tony Stark style tache on him!
    He's too small aswell.

I don't think Cusack could carry it off to be honest. Maybe Cillian Murphy.

Personally, I think Guy Pearce would be perfect for the role. He's good at making you think there's something going on upstairs.

Cruise would be ok, but there's probably someone else better out there, although I can't think of someone perfect off the top of my head.
I remember reading an interview with David Hayter, I think he said he was writing the script for this in it.

has cusack ever done a superhero movie? nice idea who could he be...?

Cruise would be too short. I always thought the guy that played Ares in Hercules: the legendary journeys (yes, you can all stop laughing now!) looked very Stark to me..... he's got the build to fill out the suit too. maybe he's even had some acting lessons since then!

I dont think Cruises face on the posters is down to him wanting it...Id say its the producers demanding it to draw crowds.

    He's dead!

So I'm guessing that might only be a slight improvement on his acting ability.

I'd assume they'd get someone older for the role. I always say Stark as someone in their late 40's early 50's. It would just seemd to fit better as he's the head of a major corporation, is an alcoholic and has a heart problem, so a young man wouldn't seem right.

Not really , you could easily portray a young to 30 year old start who inherited the company, under huge ammounts of pressure stress, driven to the bottle by his failures etc.

I guess so, but then again, when has Hollywood ever had to answer to anybody? They cast whoever is the hottest property at the time. Dakaota Fanning may yet be up for the role! :D

Wouldn't say so. He'd be tied up with the Wolverine spin off, not to mention the uproar from the fanboys about having him play two characters fom overlapping comics

A little premature dontcha think? Especally considering the quality of recent comic adaptations: X-men 1 & 2, Spiderman 1 & 2, Sin City, Batman Begins, Hulk(well I liked it :p ). Superman Returns looks good, and ghost rider is promising too.
