No online or comp stuff---not even third edition.

I'm in college and my friends and I play with my dad still--he's been DMing for over 25 years--basically since the game first came out--and we still just use the 1st and 2nd editions.

I love it and it's amazing---I got my friends addicted to it.

    CHEERS TO MY FELLOWSHIP!

    hehehe

There are a number of people who through their fear of computers are still using PnP (or else they are in electricity lacking cavan).
You should take a look at this thread

ohh and heres a smiley face --> :)

Or maybe they prefer the face to face fun of interacting with other people :P
As much fun as pc bases games can be ep with the likes of teamspeak it
is not as good as sitting down to play with friends.

No computer can handle the sheer insanity of a proper pen and paper party :D

True I have yet to see a pc game able to deal with the too often cry of
'Sod this I use the dwarven spirits set fire to the building'

    LOL

    Ahhh....so true.

I'm actually starting to write up a book on our gang's adventures.:D

    To quote Belkar ....

"It's as true today as when I started adventuring ... When in doubt, set something on fire."

Pen&Paper ftw. You just can't beat the diversity, interaction, and improvisation.

/me heads back to Guild Wars, looking slightly ashamed...

Just curious, but what kinds of characters did you all have/ or still have?

Me, I'm a gnome, the only gnome in my group--and the only split class.

    Thief/Illusionist (Mage)

And hey, no being ashamed here--it's okay ;)

There's no point in getting attached to any particular type. I'll play anything as anything. Orcs, Doppelgangers, Elves, Dwarves, humans, I've tried them all.

While I do see the fun in playing all kinds of characters, there's something about keeping one in particular. This way you get to see them develop and see what stuff they can learn and get.

I dunno, maybe I sound silly, but I really like playing one character.
What I learned from playing with my dad is how much you can really come to know about a person through playing D&D. Their true personality can shine through in the way they play---it's why he used it when he was a special ed. teacher--it helped him to better understand his students and what things he could work out with them.

    Maybe I'm a geek, but I think it's awesome.
    :)

My first character was a ranger, and they've always been a class I liked. I tried a brief foray into cleric and mage, but went back to ranger again, as they didn't really appeal to me.

My current character is a half ork monk, Rabid Snarling Badger. :D

Yes you can get to tell quiet a bit from some one from how the play what I
tend to call thier core charchters.
I tend to have two ( ah the joys of being a gemini ) a druid/nature cleric or a rogue.

There are a whole range of skills and benefits for teens if they get into roleplaying one of the reasons gave a hand in setting up D15gamers

Haha, well that explains my split class then---I'm a gemini too. :)

How many people would you say you normally played with--or what's the most you ever played with?

My normal group size is roughly GM plus 5 or 6 players.

Most I ever played with was back in secondary school when I ran a lunchtime AD&D game with about a dozen players.

I once ran a game with 11 at the table.

Now that's just multiple-concussions-as-if-from-repeated-beating-with-rulebooks waiting to happen. Madness.

why would I use a rule book and inflict possible damage to the spine of the book ?
usually with a small group I can reach them all with using a wooden spoon with out leaving my seat, with 11 I had to threathen them with the sweeping brush.

    /me takes notes

    Sweeping brush... Of course...
