i was watching ntl digital yesterday at 6pm when a message appeared on the screen from ntl requesting not to power off while an upgrade was being installed.
this lasted a couple of minutes while the set top box ran through a process.
i have never seen this before.
any ideas what it was they were upgrading?

Have you tried pressing Help -> Topics -> Whats New. That screen tells you the latest information regarding what was fixed etc. What type of STB have you got?

They don't usually update this anymore (in fact, it has been blank on my STB for months).

You are probably right. I only saw it happen once about a year and a half ago!
