Hi - pretty specific question, but myself and my boyfriend are planning RTW trip from March and are finding it pretty hard to get decent backpacks in Dublin.

We'll be hitting Scandinavia, TransMongolian, China, SE Asia, India, Australia NZ, Alaska and Canada, so are looking for 55-65 litre packs

are there any decent shops in Dublin (been to 2x outdoor adventure shops in city centre and range pretty poor, also been to Soweto on liffey st. there are no shops with well known brands like eagle creek, karrimor, rei etc.)

    thanks!

Did you try the Lowe Alpine shop in temple bar? They had a wide enough range when i worked there. The range will be similar to G.O.D. though.

GL on the trip, I'm actually jealous!

tried lowe alpine but not great for bags with side zip access (I already have a 70l top-loader with drawstring, but would prefer zips for security, and ease of access).

aside from paying online and hoping for delivery in the next few weeks (and assuming ok-fit) i'm really at a loss at figuring out the best deal.

    hello aviendha
lucky you... sounds like a fab trip
i'm just back from india and sri lanka
i bought my backpack in the travel shop off grafton street i cant think of the name of it but it will come to me and i'll post it again
here is the pack i bought there, its v. comfortable and its designed for women, it has this new 'torso fit' system so you can adjust the straps and back support to suit you depending on how heavy your backpack is.

here is a link to the lowe alpine website for a pic of it:

hi again, i remembered the name of the shop, its the Great Outdoors.

It didnt have a huge selection but i this backpack was just wat i was looking for, as it zips open around the side, there is a secretive front pocket too that i only discovered when i got it home...! the zips have strengthend holes to put a lock through them.

thanks RSTA! seems like a fairly comprehensive bag alright! didn't see it when i was there over the weekend but will check it out again.

what did you do for a daily backpack (a lot of online-stores seem to have the 60+20l daypack - although i'm more inclined to use an over the shoulder bag to keep at my front for daily use?

I don't know if you've been there already, but I found Millet's on Mary St to have a pretty good selection of backpacks. Their prices were also more competitive than Great Outdoors'.

Hi Aviendha hows it going :)
I actually didnt use a backpack for the day, I prefered to use a light shoulder bag with a long thick strap, easy for to carry just throw over the shoulder or over my head and wear to my side or front (depending where i was..)

i just picked one up when i got to SriLanka for a couple of rupees! its just a basic little colourful local made bag :)

Both myself and my gf bought our bags in the bag shop on liffey st. I think. She was also looking for the zip type with an attachable smaller bag. Was in there last week and they still had them. Cant find a picture online yet. Will keep looking
