Of course, ITunes itself can do it too.

afaik, iTunes wont convert DRM protected files to mp3.

One way around this is to burn the DRM tracks to CD, then rip them to mp3.

There is a freeware program available called JHymn, which scrubs the DRM from the files, but it doesn't work with iTunes 6.

Unfortunalely, I only doscovered this after upgrading iTunes...

If you intend doing the cd burn option, have a look at the daemon tools program in the free software sticky. Could save you a few cd's. :)

Pain in the ass, me too - I hope the guy behind JHymn can fix this at some stage.

    erm, Thanks.

Your 9 simple steps to a better life are as follows:
    1. go to edit -> preferences
    2. select the "advanced" tab
    3. select the "importing" tab
    4. choose "mp3 encoder" from the "Import using:" dropdown
    5. select your desired quality
    6. click "OK"
    7. select the song(s) that you wish to convert from the library.
    8. right click on them and choose "convert selection to MP3"
    9. ITunes will create a copy of the files in your ITunes music folder. If this is the same location as the originals then the new files have a 1 at the end.
