I'm doing biotech. i'm in second year but i know some third and fourth years!

I'm not gonna go into all the subjects on the course, they can be found here http://www.dcu.ie/registry/module_contents.php?function=4&programme=BT for biotech and here http://www.dcu.ie/registry/module_contents.php?function=4&programme=GCB for genetics.

what i will say, its a tough course. dont be fooled by it. but its a great course. theres lots of time in the labs where you get loads of hands on experience in the subject. theres about 25 hours a week. long hours i know, but worth it. i love my course.

if you do biotech you do engineering modules, they're tough but really interesting.

if you do genetics, you don't do the engineering, you do extra biology modules. genetics has more chemistry too.

if you're serious about it, you'll get out of it what you put into it. if you get your head down and put the work in, you'll really enjoy it. and by serious i dont mean don't have the craic, i mean dont act the @rse and do a bit of study.

if you have any more questions, dont hesitate to ask. although i will say, a friend of mine in second year genetics is trying to change into biotech.

if you change your mind about not doing biology once you get to dcu, it doesn't matter. they're fairly decent about letting you interchange between all the sciences, well biology, physics and chemistry, because its a common first year.

what subjects are you doing in the leaving cert? first year is common - physics, chemistry, biology, maths and computers. the physics is easier than leaving cert, don't know about chemistry or biology because i didn't do them in the leaving, maths is just calculus (easy if you put your mind to it) and the computers is basically microsoft word, excel and powerpoint!

The other idea is that if you are unsure of what science subject yuo want to do maybe you should put down common entry into science as one of your options adn you wont have to decide until the end of first year which course your doing.

Also 90% of the science courses are common in first year anyway. If you do genetics and cell biology Im pretty sure that in first year your only donig physics, chemistry, maths, biology and introuduction to IT(as with most of the pacific science courses) so at the end of first year youll have seen what the subjects are like and may find you prefer chemistry or something

i said that in my post polly - well that if he got to college and hated biology they'd let him switch.
