"Your Xbox requires service" Error 13

I have an xbox now that must be over 3 years old at this stage.

When I was playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live a few days ago the above mentioned error message appeared, complete with red and green flashing lights on the front of the console.

Now every time I start up the computer the xbox box green logo animation appears and then this error 13 message appears.

Its the same when I have a game in the machine as when there's none in it. However, when I put in an old game like halo 1 then I get an Error 21 instead!

I have not modded my xbox and I don't intend to as I believe you get banned from xbox live for that sort of thing.

Is there any easy way of solving this problem or would it be a better idea for me to go up to gamestop, buy a second hand xbox and transfer my xbox live subscription details to that, if thats possible?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated,

    Thanks

your dash was renamed somehow seems to be, modding it could easily fix it, (gain ftp access, check files, etc..) and no, modding does not ban you from live, once the mod is de-activated your grand.

How do you gain ftp access to the xbox?

    Buy a 360 -

The oul big black box owes u nothing, and you can still play Halo 2 and look forward to Halo 3, besides they are way funkier, and you can transfer your subscription no bother..........

I think it's a banjacksed hard drive. Since you never modded it then that's the most likely explanation. There is a very small chance that the drive cable is loose, so get someone who knows a bit about PC hardware to open it and check. If that hasnt fixed it you could get it modded and replace the harddrive* but you'll have to buy a different xbox for Live! as MS keep a record of everyone's harddrive serial number matched with their account.

*You can diagnose the problem a bit further by checking if the white "Microsoft" text appears under the green Xbox symbol after it boots up. If it appears then the drive is successfully being unlocked by the BIOS and you could attempt a risky hotswap+ftp/softmod but if it doesnt then the drive is brown bread so you'll need a modchip to replace the harddrive.

... i think i'll just buy a second hand xbox at gamestop or in the buy and sell ... a lot simpler than modding and a lot cheaper than the 360!
    Thanks for the suggestions though!
