screen too dark when on battery

I have a Compaq Presario R3000 laptop. There is a huge difference in screen backlight when on battery compared to when connected to the mains. Is there any way to change the settings so you always use the lighter screen even when on battery? I cannot find it in the computer settings..

is there a little icon on your arrow keys - usually in blue/purple - or on your page up/down of a little sun (best way to describe it) if you hold the function key (usually between the alt and control on the left side of keyboard) and press the key with the purple sun icon it will make the screen brighter.

have a look at the power saver settings in control panel - your screen settings will be set to use low power when running on battery - just increase to same as mains and you should be rocking .
