ACER BIOS password

Just on the offchance that anyone can help. A friend of mine gave me a laptop to fix the other day. She says that she hadn't used it for a month or so and when she booted it up, it wants a bios password. Anyone any ideas? From my online reading, removing bios battery won't work and any of the master passwords I found…

Acer say to send it back but the repair is chargeable.
