DVD Writer Drive fecked?!

    Hello all,

Tried burning a DVD using Nero last night and without my knowledge, it was slightly over the capacity of a normal disc when i clicked 'Burn' - it didn't start to burn, it just hung there reading the disc until i aborted it.

But now, i get a message in Nero when i try to burn a disc saying it's 'Waiting for the drive to become ready..' and just stays like that.

The drive will read discs fine however. The drive is a "HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4080N" in a HP Pavilion EA5368 if this matters at all.

Should i try flashing the firmware / any other advice?

Tried some different blank media? You may have some duff ones.

Or even just try some different software..
No harm re-installing your drivers I really doubt its fecked.

Tried it with different software to no avail - CDXP BurnerPro (or something like that) reported i should 'insert some writeable media'.

And finding it quite difficult to find the drivers for it but will try a bit more!!

You generally don't need to install drivers for IDE drives in windows.
