Oficial Texas Holdem Rules

We run pub tournaments. When we take on a new venue the first 3/4 tournaments are interesting and hard work (to say the least). This is because we have made it very easy for someone who has little or no poker experience to wonder down to his/her local and join in a full on poker tournament with 50+ players (an interesting concept when you think about it). The first 3/4 tournaments are usually "mad". Don't get me wrong........I'm not de-valueing what we do- these are a one rebuy OR top up tournament with a high number of experienced players added in which over the space of 3/4 tournaments the inexperienced player learns alot about holding and folding.

From time to time I come accross some mad poker situations. At the time I make my ruling based on knowledge of the game and rules, fairness to all players and best interest of the game. From the net, I printed out "oficial rules of texas holdem".........this is what I base my decisions on.

I come accross some very strange situations which would not be in my version of "the rules". I make the best decision that I can at the time and when I go home research the situation on the net and then print off my new set of rules...................I now have about 15 different sets of "oficial rules of texas holdem". While they all contain the basics each version would cover something that the others don't.

Anyway, my question is, Where can I find the oficial oficial oficial list of rules........the infinitive bible, the rock on which to build my temple????

The best thing to do would be to make your own. Some sets of rules are better than others, and there are a lot of muppets on the Internet who can put up a page titled "The Oficial Rules Of Texas Holem". It would be good to use more or less the same rules as the card clubs in this country; after all, you will have many of the same customers. But the Fitz, for example, doesn't have a printed rule book. It's all in Luke's head.

Two sensible sets of rules you could start with are the ones by Ciaffone and the ones by Caro and Cooke (search the web for them). Also for tournaments there is an American association called the TDA, I think Tournament Directors Association. They also have a handbook which is used for tournaments in many US venues.

edit: the rules I'm referring to can be found at www.poker1.com (Caro), www.pokercoach.us (Ciaffone) and http://www.pokerpages.com/articles/behindtable/tda-rules.htm (think this is the latest version for the TDA). To my knowledge none of these rulebooks is used exactly in any Irish cardroom.

Official is the official spelling of officiall, and i'd advise you to either create your own or copy those of some major Tourny e,g, wsop. anyway TD decision is final is the best rule to have and make sure the TD is decent.

    Yup.

Show me the rule book /shrug.....

    More helpfully...
There are no Official Rules, just interpretations. Sure the Tourament Dealers Association have their version and it's a really good basis, but some situations just can't be precisely covered and require discretion, commonsense, etc... (e.g. how do you consistently define how much action is significant action in various and complicated situations??). Form your basic rules, then try to be consistent and fair in the grey areas. Eh, yeah, easy..!

I think the best thing to do is take your current rules and just tweak them yourself as you see fit so they're the "VEGAS NIGHTS OFFICIAL OFFICIAL RULES"

The I.P.F are currently working a detailed set a rules which will be published later this year. Main contributors are Thomas Kremser and Nic Szerameta.

I agree with De Deraco. Most important factor in a tournament is a director who knows what He's doing and has the final say in all matters.

All well and good but as i involved running tourneys in the west in Kiltimagh ect would love if all tourneys had the same basic standards, ie same blind structure, moving people etc. unfortunatly u get some guys comming back after playing some god knows what tourney somewhere thinking he knows everything,
be nice if there was a standard so punters know what is going to happen unless they are complete novice and then we can explain.:D
