Would it be possible to receive watchable tv and teletext transmissions from RTE and TV3 via an aerial in Manchester?

Anyone got any info on whether this is possible.

    Regards,

TV3 - as close to impossible as you can get - the only possible hope of reception would be from Kippure and that co-channels with Winter Hill.

VHF - very, very slim chance. I would seriously doubt it. Though I have reports of it being possible in parts of Liverpool and Preston with large setups on high ground.

Teletext and subtitles only possible via FTA satellite receiver. Terrestrial in Manchester? No.

Well the teletext and subtitles work...
    10744 H, SR 22000, FEC 5/6
    (tp 43)

No pictures or sound without a Sky Digibox or Sky+ and an ROI subscription.

In mid 1985 whilst living at my parents who live on top of a slight hill in Eccles, Manchester I built an extensive DXTV system, with a band 2, a band 3, and a wide band UHF bowtie arial all with mast head amplifiers. pointing west RTE 1 under flat conditions was in colour but a bit grainy, RTE 2 was weak and would fluctuate between colour and black and white, I never tried teletext, and in those days there was no TV 3 or TG4! On the nearly the same frequency as RTE 1 as I turned my antenna south was Canal plus from Cean, in France, with positive video and secam colour,( I had a Thomson multi standard TV). In those days band 3 in the uk was magical as 405 line tv had just closed down and the band was completly empty! my band 3 antena was several metres long and was 7 ellement! Band 3 was later destroyed by mobile trunked radio, though I believe this has moved to make way of the ever increasing use of DAB. At the time RTE radio was in good sterio with no interference on band 2. I now live in a ground floor flat with NTL digital cable and don`t even possess an anolouge TV tuner, :D
