Well i recently tried to install Xp Professional on a brand new hard drive, (i.e repartion the whole biz) but when i start up it states it is missing and Ntfs(or similar) file to boot and partition from. I have tried manually booting from f8 etc but to no avail. So I installed of my old XP Home disc and everything was dandy until it would not except the code on the side of my comp. I checked and rechecked the code but no dice. So i have basically 6 days to activiate windows until i'm screwed. So when i tried to install Pro of a Pro disc, it installs all the outlook express programs etc but will not fully overwrite my xp installation. I'm now wondering is there a upgrade disc i need or similar? On startup i still have the same green Xp Home logo's etc and the clock is ticking. Anyone know? Any help would be greatly appreciated !

you need to delete the partition and start a fresh install..

But the pro disc wont boot, says its missing a file. So to repartition would i not need a boot disc too?

Wouldn't be using a "friend of a friends" disk by any chance, would you?
