Do you have a Broadband connection or a dialup?

If you have dialup you will need a cross over cable and a program called freeproxy.

If you have Broadband a modem/router would be better.

Right, the easy way to do it is to get a router.

A router is a device that allows several computers to communicate with each other, but also share an internet connection.

By simply pluging the cable from your modem (the little box you got from eircom) into the router you can then split the connection to several other computers.

Some routers have modems inbuilt, allowing you to shelve the old one and some are wireless (allowing the obvious).

In all cases though you will need a lan connection or usb port in the other computer to recieve connections.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

If your modem has USB as well as Ethernet, you can use two PCs by connecting one via USB and the other one via a patch lead (normal RJ45 cable) to the modem. If this is the case, you won't need a router.

Just don't trip over the cable! Consider drilling a hole through the wall to avoid trailing a long cable through doorways - with all the inherent Health and Safety (=tripping) implications.

also if you use a router to connect each pc to it you will need straight through cables! I can make them for you if you want! Any length at all! I have a thread in the for sale / services fourm offering this service to all boards.ie users!
