Looking for a dentist

I'm looking for a dentist in the Dun Laoghaire area.
I know there are any number of dentists but i'm looking for a recommendation from people who use someone regularly.

I'd like to go for a check up/cleaning as i haven't been for quite some time.

What can i expect to pay for a check up/cleaning?

Also, i saw mention of PRSI related discount on a different thread.
I had a look at the link but it didn't really make much sense.
I'm 25 and would have more than 39 consecutive PRSI contributions over the last year and a bit.
    Do i qualify?

    Cheers,

    Killian

Think you need to be 4 years of more paying PRSI for dental benefit, to tell you the truth is not worth a lot if you need a lot of advanced work done, but for check ups its fine. Expect to pay between 65 - 120 euro depending on wheather you get a scale and polish with the check up or not and also how many x-rays are needed to check out your teeth.

On a by note...if you need anything more than the most basic cleaning consider going to a hygieneist...they are cheaper, give your teeth a much more through clean and are much better at giving diet advice and oral hygiene instruction. Some dentists are very good at this also, but hygieneists do it all day every day.

Hopefully somebody can give you advice on a dentist in dun laoighre

    good luck

Ok, so perhaps i'd be better off going to a dental hygienist first?
I'm pretty sure i would need some kind of clean up work.
If i need anything more she could refer me to the dentist, i suppose.

    Cheers,

    Killian

Dental hygienests work to a dentists prescreption (that the law here in Ireland which may be changing soon) so you will have to go to a dentist first to see what needs to be done.

Right, I need to get around to go and get my teeth fixed...

When I was 3-5, I had an accident in one of those bumping cars... I was driving with my mom, and just before the edge I turn around to look at my dad... and boom! I smashed my face/teeth into a metal steering wheel.

Now, my right left tooth is quite high and is facing the front by something like ~30 degree angle... and, there is another small tooth underneath it... if I remember correctly, in an x-ray done some 7-8 years ago, they're sharing the same roots.

I had braces when I was 8-10, but due to them being extremely bad quality, I hated them... and stopped wearing them.

I'm afraid that if I go to some random dentist, I'll get some another pair of crappy braces and they'll make the situation even worse that it is(and painful).

I heard some good things about Dental Hospital in Trinity... so is that the place to go for me, or is there a better place?

I went to the other dentist there - ***Names removed at request of user***. As a dentist found him really good - although it didn't take long for my wallet to take a distinct dislike to the man.

The problem I had was that he'd give me the impression that all was well, but I just needed to come in to have a filling fixed - this happened 3 times and totalled about 5 fillings in a very short period of time, twice being doubles at naturally double the cost. I've no doubt that the work done needed to be done, but things were a bit tight at the time and I made it very clear that I needed to budget for it - but since he wouldn't tell me until after the fact I ended up getting p1ssed off and never went back for that "just one more filling"...

Well i got an appointment for this afternoon.
    It went really well.
I was a little worried as it's been easily 8-10 years since i'd last been to a dentist.

I ended up going to ***Names removed at request of user*** on George's Street, in Dun Laoghaire.
As it was my first time with him, he took some x-rays and checked everything over.
There was no decay or problems with wisdom teeth.
A bit of plaque build up and some slight gum irritation.
He gave me a cleaning and everything was finished in about 25-30 minutes.
    Very nice manner.
The form i filled in included questions about dental phobias or any bad past experiences with dentists, which i thought was a nice touch.

Perhaps a stickie thread for recommendations?
Although maybe that wouldn't be wise if it got filled with bad experiences.

    Killian
