    Well snuff is openly on sale in a lot of newsagents and bars.

    That said I haven't used it in a while so haven' been looking out for it.

    That's why i'm so confused. The article states that "the manufacture, import, supply or sale of any "oral smokeless tobacco product" is banned

    I just read through the 2004 act and the refereneces are there
    Article 2
    Definitions
    For the purposes of this Directive, the following definitions shall apply: (a) ‘tobacco products’ means all products intended to be smoked, sniffed, sucked or chewed inasmuch as they are made,evenpartly,oftobacco;
    (2) It shall be an offence for a person to manufacture, import, supply, sell or invite an offer to purchase an oral smokeless tobacco product.

    I must have a look around though as I used to be partial to a bit of snuff.

    You can read the 2004 Act here:

    That's a bit silly really... I thought the whole idea was to stop damage from second-hand smoke? Is there second-hand snuff? :confused:

    I was just wondering if anyone knows if smokeless tobaccos such as snuff or chewing tobacco are legal?
    This article seems to suggest that they are illegal, but that seems stupid considering that cigarettes are still legal

    I was under the impression that Chewing Tobacco was made illegal in the 1970's.

    Surely Snuff is a nasal smokeless tobacco product. If you're putting it in your mouth, you're doing something wrong.

    I'd imagine it would be difficult to detect whetheir someone was using it. A perfect example is Scandinavian Snus see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus, however it's banned in EU. I'm not a smoker but tried it myself in Norway, fairly fierce buzz from it.

    The only reasons I can think of for banning them are:
    Underage people using them - snuff and chewing tobacco being very hard to spot/detect.
    Litter - big black tobacco spitmarks everywhere. But then that's not much worse than cig butts everywhere...
