I've been trying to get the half life 1 anthology to work for the past two hours and its starting to get the better of me.

Okay here's the problem, having just got over the fustration (or nightmare) of getting steam to work, but now when i load up the game, i cannot see any of the characters in the menu (see screenshot).

Has anyone else had a similar problem?? I'm playing it on my inspiron 510m laptop with a crappy 64mb integrated graphics card, but surely it should still work. Any help at all is appreciated. Thanks.

definitely looks like a corrupt installation. Uninstall, run checkdisk, defrag your harddrive, then restart & reinstall.

try that, then tell us if it still happens.

    upgrade the graphics drivers first.

Thanks for the reply SolarNexus. I tried that but still have the same issue. I am actually able to play the game, its just the menu's that are messed up and its the same for all games on the disk.

I've seen stuff like that happen when running Counter-Strike 1.6 on a PC with crappy on-board SiS graphics under OpenGL. IIRC Intel on-board graphics (which is what yours probably has since Dells usually use Intel chipsets) are usually useless at OpenGL too. Try changing to Direct3D or even software, though it will look awful.

And yeah make sure you have the latest drivers (graphics and chipset - you might get better ones on the Intel website), and the latest DirectX might help too.

    I doubt it's a corrupt installation.
