I am looking for help for a really good friend of mine she is a fantastic singer from OZ and she has just moved to London. She fell in love with Dublin and now she wants to try and get gigs here. I said Id help but no idea where to start and since she finds it hard enough struggling in London without worrying about Dublin too. Anyone know where I could start?

lounge/piano bar type gigs or singer/songwriter type gigs? In both its just a case of getting to know as many people as possible, particularly in the former as its a small enough group in dublin. Go to the bars/restaurants/clubs where you want to play and start talking to people.. no other way about it.

Thanks a mil gathered as much but thought maybe there was something I was missing. Then I read of few of the pages and realised quite a few people are in the same boat when it comes to acting or singing...

She should try and get a slot of the Ruby Sessions (every Tuesday at Doyles, D'Olier St). It's 4 different artists every week. Website is www.rubysessions.com. Lots of established acts have played there in their earlier days - Damien Rice, James Blunt, Gemma Hayes, Mundy, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Stephen Fretwell... and they always get a special guest back for their birthday gigs. Does she play guitar, piano etc as well as sing? What kinda style would she say she is?

Has she got a website? Has she got anything down on CD that she can send to promoters for supports?

Thats a great help. I've never heard of Ruby sessions before. She dosnt play an instrument but she has a guitarist. She used to be quite successful in OZ so she has a few old bites on CDs and at the moment she is working on new stuff. She gave me a CD and its very Tori Amos Style. But she always says she has done pretty much every style. She has a gig in a Jazz club for example and she used to play weddings so she is really quite versatile. My bro is trying to organise her website not sure if its up and running yet but its jaimeleewilson.com. Is there a way you guys can listen to her music? Would you be interested to hear it? I only found this board yesterday so am total newby with very little tech skills so that could be a very stupid question! if it is apologies!

No probs! I'm not involved with the Ruby Sessions myself but will pm you on a few contacts (you can also get the Ruby Sessions through the website). Couldn't get on the Jamielee website yet?
