Anybody here looking for a 1990 Renault 21?

There is one parked/abandonded in Templemore, Co.Tipperary.
(On the lefthand isde just as you turn out the Thurles Road from the town).

I worked for a Renault specialist from 1989-1996 and I recall the when they were new.
Lovely car to drive ....and now a rare sight on our roads!

    Future classic ??

(Templemore car looks like this....and same colour)

It seems bizarre to be talking about the 21 in a classic car forum :) The 21 is now in the middle of its "banger phase" and will be for some time yet. As with other bangers, numbers are diminishing rapidly. Even when it comes out of this banger phase I don't think any survivors will have much following. Look at older Renaults like the 12, 18 and 20 - they aren't really thought of as "classics" while Cortinas and Escorts from the same era are.

Now the 21 2l turbo has already acquired cult status but many of the cars have either been written off by boy racers or else butchered by modders. Quick car and exciting car in its day and even today :) I am not sure if the 21 Turbo was ever sold officially in Ireland though, I don't believe I have ever seen one on the roads here. Were they sold here Silvera?

For the size of the car the 21 was very light by modern standards so even with the normal 1.7 carb engine it felt spritely enough. And of course it was a big comfy, well equipped sofa of a car :)

    hmmm, by the garda college???

surprising, great renault breaker in the area actually, judas :) funny bloke, seems to just buy cars, doesn't really sell em, just buys em and leaves em to stand about going green

:) renault 21? is that the model number or the value?:)

Yes, the car is close to the Garda college.

    I said (possible) "Future classic?".

    BrianD3,
I'm pretty sure that there were a few new 21 Turbos sold here when I worked in the trade. All were white, IIRC.

Yes, the 21 is in it's 'banger phase', so all the more reason to grab such cars now they there are unwanted (and cheap!).

Have you people learned nothing from the past ! :D;)

(If I had the space, I would have a few 'bangers' in storage right now)

To me the 21 was the most non-descript car of the 90's or was it the 80's when they were out. They are the definition of blandness.

I always liked the renault 20/30 but if you really want a French classic would not a Citroen CX or Peugeot 504 be a much more interesting choice.

That thing had such appalling quality - I don't think it will progress to being a classic.:)

i remember seeing the 2L turbo model being advertised somewhere as being: as fast as a cosworth. nice thought but i couldnd see my self driving one (not that im driving yet).

is that one a left hand drive? steering wheel and dash look a bit off

I'm sure many people said the same of the R12, 18, 20, 30.....when they were commomplace :D

Now many people would pay good money for e.g. a R18!

I'm not sure if they would Silvera. I personally like most of the old Renaults and would have one as a classic car. But Renault fans seem to be few and far between and values are really low even though the cars might be very rare. I have a Practical Classics mag in front of me and according to their price guide the R5 (original), R12 or Fuego are only worth about 800-900 pounds in top condition. The 18, 20 and 30 are not even listed in the guide. Even the R16, widely recognised as a brilliant car is only worth 1750 in top condition, less than many other more common and inferior cars. Perhaps a reason for the low values is the Renaults don't seem as dated as other cars from the same era therefore they have less classic following. Eg it is hard to believe that the Renault 5 is 34 years old this year, also the R18 drives pretty similarly to a modern saloon.

The only renault id consider buying as a classic would be the Renault 12 saloon.
I really liked them but at the same time I would not pay more that STG£600 for one.:)

I mean look at this renault 11 on Ebay. If that were virtually any other well known brand a car in that condition with that mileage the price would be well over £1,000 by now but as they say its all about supply and demand - and there seems to be shag all demand for this admittedly pristine classic.

I notice in the B+S there are two old Renaults for sale (a 1984 18 and a 1973 16) and their location is given as Tipperary and the same contact details for both. I wonder is this the Renault breaker that you mention?

Also in the B+S is a Fiat Argenta with 49k miles which is claimed to have a perfect body and been dry stored. Now that is a super rare car.

Yeah, I also noticed that Argenta for sale.

    It's in Listowel.
Maybe Alfasudcrazy will check it out and report back to us?
