My brother wants to purchase a 4 track for recording his guitar playing.
But he already has a good pc & soundcard with auxilary input socket, and i was tryin to convince him that he doesn't need a 4 track at all.
anyone any advice or experience using their pc for guitar playing??

If he's computer literate, he will have access to much more functionality with the computer. Tape based 4 track will be hissy and horrid. The digital ones are often fiddly. Too many functions, a tiny screen and not enough buttons. He can get started right away - google audacity - it's free. I'd advise him to sink his money into a decent soundcard and a midi/audio sequencing program. See other threads in this area for recommendations on the software and soundcard.

P.S. - judging by the last edited time (midnight, Jan 1 1970) on your post, It looks like the CMOS battery is gone on your motherboard and it's not remembering the time.

    OK, thanks squibs!
i had a feeling he'd be better off with pc, just wanted some other opinions.

do not let him get a four track if he has access to any sort of computer. Absolute waste of time and money.
