I'm arriving in Verona(actually Brescia with Ryanair) on a Wednesday in early March. I want to go skiing, its my first time. I will have all day Wednesday to get somehwere and setlle in and then ski Thur, Fri, Sat and Sun. I'm looking for somewhere scenic and somewhere i'll be able to get lessons in English. Has anyone flown in here for skiing before and can offer some advice on getting to a good resort. Thanks.

This is the problem with organising a holiday such as this yourself. It may not be impossible but i'd suggest a package holiday for beginners.

If you're in the mountains it'll be scenic. As for resorts in the area I've no idea. If it's a biggish resort it'll have instructors who speak english.

The problems you can/will have are:
    - You don't know if/what resorts are there or what they are like.
    - Lessons usually run from sun - thurs with friday free as that is the usual package deal. Privately they are much more expensive. Other group lessons may be available but may not suit your exact timeframe.
    - Transfers to the resort. This is part of a package deal so you'll have to make sure it's possible - quickly and cheaply - yourself.

Yeah I know a package would be much handier but its just I'm in Rome for a few days and can get a very cheap flight to Brescia so thought I'd try to squeeze in a little skiing, I agree its not ideal. I will have to use public transport to get to and from the airport.
I thought there would be skiing lessons starting everyday as different groups arrive, this is very bad news if they only start Sunday, tbh that sounds a bit strange to me?

I'm not saying group lessons don't start these days as I don't know for sure but most people who go skiing, who need lessons are there on a package and that is how the lessons generally seem to run. Private lessons are always gonig to be possible but they run at about 40€ an hour here in austria so expect similar in Italy. Imo group lessons are better for beginners (cheaper and you get the info you need) and individual lessons are only better if you need precise coaching on what you're doing wrong rather than general 'wtf do I do' type instruction.

Ok I've kind of decided on Passo Tonale, its a bit of hassle to get there compared to package transfers but its possible. I think along the lines of what you warned Imposter, I'm finding it very hard to get accomodation, all websites have accomodation on a weekly basis, saturday to saturday. I'm starting to think it will actually be impossible to get accomodation independently at a ski resort from a Wednesday to a Monday :(

That's pretty much the case. Most resorts I've been in expect you to be there from Sat/Sun until the following Sat/Sun. I would imagine it would be pretty hard to get anything else.
