This is a fact. Someone I know who's not from Tip but living there now is starting to adopt this little trait.

have you noticed we do the boy/girl thing too

we dont say well- we say "well girl" and "all right boy"

think thats just a general irish thing though

I never say "Well Girl" or "Alright boy" but I do use the word "like" every second word subconsciously.

And I live in Galway, not Tipp, so....

I know alot of people that do it actually, maybe its a thing in the western/mid part of Ireland...

It's very common in Limerick. Annoys the hell out of me when I find myself doing it.

"Well boy" and "well girl" are very common here in Waterford. So is the term like especially with the teenagers. I always say well girl or boy and don't use the like thing too much but it can rub off on you if you're talking to someone who uses, like.

i use 'well boy' and 'well girl' over here and aparently, according to the other irish people here, its only me and other tipp people who do it. dont notice the 'like' thing to be honest.

They do that in Cork like.

It's a South Dublin thing too... although it's been upgraded to 'loike'

Lot of Limerick people I know don't say "well boy/girl" but rather "well well?" as a kind of interim comment in a conversation.

Yeah its a Cork thing. Does nobody listen to Today FM's giftgrub? They always say it on Radio Jay or Radio Roy.

I always associate it more with Cork, but I probably know more Cork people than Tipperary people. I did know a guy from Tipperary though who put "y'know?" at the end of every statement he made, or if he was really enthusiastic about the topic it was "y'know what I mean like, y'know what I mean?"

Loads of Cork people do it, I'll have to admit that, but a lot of people in Dublin do it, girls in particular, they're all "loike" and Y'know like" so it's definitely not just a country thing!

I've been waiting a long time for you to finish that sentence.

Anyway, a lot of people in Dublin say it as well. I find it's more common with girls. I suppose they don't always use it to suffix their sentences though. It can crop up, like, anywhere.
