Scanning through the form here a case can really only be made for one or two. In the end the choice was unoriginal. GUSTAVO has been a rejuvenated horse since dropping into handicap company and by the look of his last two wins (the 1st one unpenalised) 6lbs probably won’t stop him, especially against this company. The Castilian ran an ok race last time but didn’t help his chances by constantly going out to the left…also the horse that bet him that day was a 25-1 shot who just happened to have things fall right for him on the day. My suspicion is that the form of that race is pretty poor and The Castilian will need to do a great deal more to figure here. At big odds, Captain Smoothy may sneak into a place.

    Selection: Gustavo

    FAKENHAM

    2:10

The favourite in this one, Rookery lad is completely unproven over this trip so I wouldn’t want to be taking any short prices about him. Although he likes the ground I just couldn’t have him for this. SUNNY SOUTH EAST on the other hand has winning form over this distance and a similar undulating track. It really is a poor race with Sconced, the next in the betting not enjoying a win since 2003 and there are more maidens behind them. I’m just going through the card here (not saying I’m gonna do it all) but Sunny South East appears to be the best of a bad bunch.

    Selection: Sunny South East

    2:45

Not gonna say much about this one cause I’ve been reliably informed that Henderson has a very smart hurdler on his hands with DARAYBAD. McCoy has already had one good winner with a Henderson debutant and I think the second favourite, My Immortal and potentially smart hurdler Prize Fighter are just unfortunate in coming up against a good thing today.

    Selection: Daraybad

    3:20

We may as well keep going…Vertical Bloom has been running ok in this grade of late but this is tougher and the form of his bumper has not been working out at all. Although the same note of caution can be taken with TOKALA, he won his bumper in such good style that you’d be disappointed if he couldn’t take a race like this fairly handily.

Remember Medison and that Imperial Cup performance….astonishing that he hasn’t won a race since. He made his chasing debut last time and although he jumped pretty well he didn’t seem to enjoy being at the races. He probably wants to have good ground and may be seen in a better light here. My World was beaten 5 lengths by Voy Por Ustedes in December, the same horse beat Medison by 9 lengths on new years eve. Medison and VPU were level weights that day, where as My World was receiving 5 pounds from VPU when they met. A match race it is so…I’ll stick with MY WORLD because I prefer his attitude

    Selection: My World

    3:40

FAV: Brigadier du Bois – A maiden after 22 starts. Really don’t like backing these in handicaps.

2nd FAV - Appears to do well when a horse in front of her falls or is shot dead. I don’t think it stays this trip very well and should probably stop trying it. Don’t be fooled by that CD beside its name. The raising post say it’s a course and distance winner which is grand but she would have been well beaten had Myson not been booted out the road by a loose horse….she finished knackered that day and was lucky she wasn’t put to the test because she would have definitely failed.

3rd FAV Sitting Duck. Another Maiden but lightly raced so there’s hope. Dipping into the form I’ll pick out this –

Moscow Gold beat Sitting duck by 2 lengths. This was after he beat Wages by 4 lengths. After that defeat Wages went on to hack up in a race a lot better than the one we see today. This, although in no way giving us the winner, at least gives us some hope. Will also stay the trip easy enough.

    WOLVERHAMPTON

    1:50

    BLUE MAEVE

My mother’s name is Maeve so….

(Seriously, that’s the best I feel like doing in this race)

I really couldn’t be arsed to go through Wolverhampton, so for a winner here, click up to the horses to follow sticky.

would you have a nap of day

I'll tell ya at the end of the day. :D

Nah...Spanish Lace will take some beating I think.

Of the ones above you'll have to read through the analysis, weigh up the price options and choose a nap for yourself. I could nap Tokala but he's about 1-2...

Put Tokala, Daraybad, Sunny South East, and Spanish Lace in an accum.

My World and Sunny South East have great chances too though...

    Honestly....I don't know mate.

An absolutely laughable start. Something must be seriously wrong with Gustavo...well backed, always out the back and pulled up. Christ.

Good call with My World, I've always felt Medison is a horse to be against, yet he has been favourite for almost every race he goes in. His reputation is still holding from the imperial cup win when he was an extremely well handicapped horse.

Medison just doesn't have the right attitute for the game at all does he.

Was right about Rookery Lad not staying out the trip...just picked the wrong horse to benefit.

Daraybad wasn't up to much unfortunately. I had prize fighter each way cause he was a crazily large price....first past the post rules apply so whatever they decide to do about the result it should pay
