What a wonderful weekend for hurling - hard to believe it is January with the ground conditions so good! Rathdowney is the scene for the Walsh cup clash of Laois and Kilkenny this Sunday January 29th at 2.00pm.

As it is far away from the business end of the year at the moment, this will be a great oppertunity for both Laois and Kilkenny to blood new players and for Laois to measure where they are at.

Kilkenny will be without King Shefflin and the convoy of James Stephens Club members. DJ will also be unavailable. Laois also are missing some of last years team, namely, Tommy Fitzgerald and Darren Rooney to name a few.

Laois will have a very young side out with the majority still eligible for U21. Minors captain last year, Conor Dunne should also feature after a more than impressive display in a challenge match against Club side Portumna recently when he held Damien Hayes scoreless.

So, here is hoping for a good game at the Rathdowney venue and looking forward to seeing all the supporters of The Beautiful Game there. ;)

Laois certainly gave a good account for themselves today with the full time result: 2-18 to 2-18

Extra time was played and Kilkenny came out, just at 2-25 to 2-23.

The sides meet again tomorrow in Kilkenny at 2.30pm:

    Laois - P Mullaney; P Mahon, P Cuddy, E Bergin; J Fitzpatrick, S Hyland, M McEvoy; J Young, J Phelan; C Healy, K O'Keeffe, P Russell; D Culleton, J Coogan, J Brophy.

    Kilkenny: - R O'Neill; J Dalton, JJ Delaney, S Maher; R Mullally, J Tennyson, T Walsh; M Kavanagh, P Cleere; M Rice, A Murphy, E Brennan; J Fitzpatrick, R Power, A Fogarty.

    Interesting selections.

Unfortuantly, we'll be lucky to hold them to 20 points this time as I expect the scoreline to be a true reflection of where both counties are in the bigger scheme of things...

We held them well until the 46th minute when Michael McEvoy was taken off? Why oh why was he taken off? If he hadn't been taken off I'd say that we'd have held them to five points or so, but def not thirteen.
