You got it allin preflop and you were ahead.

    meh.

it would take an exceptional read. This is a bit of crazy play with AK but you're only behind one hand at the time you could have folded.
But you were a good bit ahead. in fact here's just how much

cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
    Ks Kh 1187967 69.38 509318 29.74 15019 0.88 0.698
    As Kc 509318 29.74 1187967 69.38 15019 0.88 0.302

So he hit his three outer (not strictly speaking a three outer, but you get the idea).

When someone does something stupid like:
crsheridan called $10 and raised $317.62 and is All-in

we have to assume that he's not playing aces. If he was it was a very strange move indeed.
Would any boardsters play aces preflop like the villain?
    Go on, own up!

i guess he wanted to gamble knowing that he could only lose half his stack. i also guess he's a tool.
you cant fold there because if he had AA he probably would of played it slower.
    unlucky dude

I'd play aces like that if the other person thought their hand warrented a call and then a re-raise preflop.

but why would you do that if you have the best hand and there is a good chance he will fold?

if he limped and re-raised I'd believe he would call an all-in.

that's actually a fair point. hadn't really thought about that. but with the size of the stacks compared to the pot?
Still an awful way to play ak.

All you can do is get your chips in with the best hand, you did that and you lost. You were unlucky.

In situations where an opponent pushes preflop it is often AA/KK/AK.
QQ generally only gets called by better hands and doesn’t fold out any hands it is losing to.
AK is also only likely to get called when it is behind but it can fold out hands it is a slight dog to(QQ and other smaller pairs).

In your specific situation it is blind vs blind 5 handed and so maybe villain pushes QQ some % of time.
But if you rule out QQ and assume villain pushes AA & KK 100% of time and AK some x%, then it is a useful exercise to work out how often villain needs to push AK for your call to be correct.
I’ll do it tomorrow if nobody is bothered.

Oh and bad beat sticky is at top of page…

Villain will rarely have AA here. Very few players like to make such a strong move with the hand that they know is the best.

Would I play AA in the way villain played AK? No...

Players at these tables can limp raise with a broad range of hands...it doesnt happen too often, but it does happen. Pushing someone all in who decided to get a bit fancy with pocket 9's will be a wake up call to him that yes, he probably is well behind.

With AA you want to be dragging villain into the pot, the aim is to get him pot committed no matter what the flop is. This approach will win you more stacks in the long run.

at best, villian thought he was going to push OP off a low/med pair or a worse A. He read somewhere once that it's best to be all-in with AK so he gets to see all 5 cards to try and improve.
