I have a SumVision External Enclosure with a Samsung 160Gb Hard Drive inside. Have lost the installation disk for the Sum Vision Enclosure and my Pc (XP Pro installed) does not want to recognise the USB Enclosure. I have plugged the Hard Drvie internally into the PC and there is no problem recognising it. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how I might get this working. Its wrecking me buzz :)

Did you format the hard drive, using the Administrative tools/Computer management/Disk management.Hard drive probably needs drive name then Xp will pick it up.

The Hard Drive has data on it. Can view this wneh I use it internally although it just seems to be the External Enclosure that is not being recognised. Can not find drivers anywhere online for the bloody Sum Vision product. Driving me crazy.

Contact or email them, they will send u replacement driver cd,or download from thier website, look at bootdisk.com usb for universal usb drivers that work from dos bootdisk cdr or floppy, but u,d need to be fairly advanced at dos,in order to setup a bootdisk with automatic dos usb drivers enclosed, he explains 4 ways to setup usb dos, u need to download duse.exe and other usb various sys driver files, from 3 different websites, unless u wanna pay him 5dollars for acess to his usb dos download page.if u download knoppix 3.2 iso then use nero to burn the .iso image/which makes bootable cdrom, then reboot pc /it will boot off cd setup linux os in ramdrive/virtual drive and loadup all drivers including usb drivers to detect all devices and hardrives.I can,t gaurantee it will recognise the usb enclosure unit,it loads up os into ramdrive, without writing any files to your harddrive. It has built in usb drivers .First try driverguide.com and windrivers.com , you have to register with druiverguide if u want to get any files. knoppix will allow you to test your hd ,maybe/ if it sees your usb unit.I FIND EBCDPRO bootdisk/cdrom better for pc diagnostics but i dont know if that contains hd usb drivers,to be honest.Or just use it as an internal hd until u have the proper drivers.

Go to google type win98 usb drivers,it will bring you to usbnews.net on 1st result page, ,i think u need usb 2.o to ide/mass storage drivers, these are generic usb drivers, there is no gaurantee, they will work on your pc, if they dont work, uninstall them, or try to find ur device company /drivers on that website, pick out ones designed for your os/eg winxp .
