Veteran Badges

I just got my veteran medic badge last night, but in an unusual way.

to get it I needed so many hours as a medic (which I had) then 20kills IAR which (for me) was a tall order

I was playing on Wake Island and took over as commander. Very good game as it turns out and very good team of players. I wound up killing over 20 enemies with Arty and wham I was awarded my vet badge

I assume getting the 20IAR kills now for Engineer and Anti-tank would work the same.

I'm wondering if the same works for vehicles, as in if I wanted to get 20 kills IAR for the medic could I have done it in a copter, tank, plane?

Yes, you just need the kills, how you actually get them isn't always important.

Funny 'cos I can get the kills but can't get the hours needed

As long as you're the class at the time, it does'nt matter how you kill, altho never knew that artillery counted. Got the engineering badge by switching to engineer, laying 3 mines, jumping into an APC and driving off to an enemy base. 2 minutes later i'd kills via the mines, 5 with the APC, 1 with the shotgun and i was never engineer again. I've been engineer for 20 minutes out of my 147 hours of play.

eh? You mean the enemies just boarded your APC and you drove over your own mines, or...? Not with you, sorry

While i was attacking their base, shoulda said i took out 3 with the mines i laid back at my place, dunno whether they were in a tank, apc or jeep.

o didnt know you could do that with the Commander and arty nice , i have the hours just need kills for assult spec ops and medic

getting the basic knife badge is a pain for me! Not enough opportunities in a round to sneak up on someone to stab them....

Rush the f***ers. When you get close, jump, lie down in the air and stab. I got it on my 2nd try in Ghost town. On my 1st try I received the purple heart for my troubles.

Is it my me or has killing with a knife got a lot more difficult since the beginning, you see very little of them on the scores ingame as opposed to a few months ago. Also why is pistol badge only 5 kills and the knife 7, surely the pistol would be easier to get.

You have to play as a specific class for 10 hours first, then get 20 kills in a round as that class to get your veteran badge

I find the best way to do this is to use the classes you have least time on when playing commander, pilot , or armor so as to get up to 10 hours.
The be a co-pilot in a heli to get the kills :rolleyes:

Takes about 4 good pistols shots to kill someone, 2 headshots it think. Knife is 1 hit 1 kill

Hey, I only did it to get the knife badge. I'm opposed to the whole thing myself but i think when its knife vs gun its fair. (Who brings a knife to a gun fight?)

If have the spec forces exp knifin can be a whole lot easier. Firstly in the game itself with the darkness. Sneak up on people. Gun fire usually gives away ur position with the muzzle fire. Secondly, when unlock the F2000 u get the flash bangs for normal BF2 as well for that kit. Nice if theres a load of em & they know that friendlys close so wont fire, so can just run & knife a few of em. Done it a few times on karkand, remember chuckin one over tin wall at the bottom of main MEC base (32 map) then runnin in & stabbin 3 or 4, then was one that had got his vision restored before got to him & shot me

veteran class combat badges are 15 hours play time and IAR: 20 kills
Expert is 100 hours play time and IAR:40 kills

some ranks are only available if you have all the required badges before ranking up. i need to get my veteran knife badge before i hit 50k points to get the alternate rank.

the hardest thing to get sometimes is the playtime and the requirements for a lot of the awards are simply rediculous.

i have several awards i can qualify for if i get the IAR requirements, most of them are teamwork points which i usually score very low because i usually support a flag capture by hunting spawners.

No you don't. You only need basic badges to get the alternate rank. You will get it now when you hit 50K. no vet badges required

Personnally I think the Eng Vet badge is the hardest, The highest I have ever got was 7 or 8 I think and I spent that whole round fixing anything I could find.
The knife badge is easy enough just play on Kark RESIST The urge to pull out your gun and sneak behind people, I always aim for the lower torso aswell which I find works well

you need the basic badges to get the alternate rank at 20k, you need veteran badges to get alternate rank at 50k

i didnt get the one at 20k because i was missing 1 badge.

According to bf2s, you only need the basic. look at the bottom of your bf2s profile. if you needed any other badges, it would say "next rank : Master Gunnery Sergeant, you need XXX to get Sergeant Major." But since you meet all the requirements except points, it says "Next Rank: Sergeant Major "

I did that , once , back when I started playing BF , thought it was a legitimate tactic , got banned off the server for spawn raping .

it is a legitimate tactic, if im in a squad of 6 people it doesnt take 6 to capture the flag, at most you need 3 people and 1 extra as a medic to keep them alive.

common sense says the other 2 should hunt potential interlopers and squad leaders who may try to retake the flag while you are prepping defences or getting ready to move to the next combat area.

if someone kicks you for this then they are obviously in their early teens and suffering from severe intelligence defiency.

Can't they believe they'd kick over that, nothing more annoying than trying to capture a flag, you're looking around constantly then you stop and someone spawns behind you and bang.

Nothin more fun if on mashturr & you & a squad mate go MEC support & cover the 2 spawns @ US pad when everyone goin for the black hawk. Racks up the kills. Your just waitin for someone to go & take their flag if ya gotta third.

It was the Black watch server . While I agree , and think it's a legitimate tactic , when I posted around on different Battlefield forums the majority felt I was in the wrong .

To say that this would come from a clan in their early teens is wrong in fairness , clans in their early teens have an anything goes policy .

'camping' capturable flag points is perfectly fine and to be encouraged. Camping uncapturable flag points is spawn camping and just a cheap way of racking up kills. It's also the fastest way to empty a server and ruin your own fun when people on the other team get bored of spawning for the fifteenth time only to die less than a second later.

I just get into the Heli and kill em all on Fushe Pass or Dragon Valley etc
Ive been helpin my mate get all his normal badges, he got about 5 in 1 round. Just changed kit then would hop back into the gunner seat and id go and get him lined up for all the kills

My X-Fires 'seantheman'. Id be more than happy to fly teh chopper for ye on any map and help ye get any of those veteran ,expert or standard badges ye need

On the camping front, i'm noting alot of this one as of late. Tanks and Apcs staying outside the area and just raking up the kills with no intention of capturing the flag. Was on dragon valley last night and had a tank and jeep(with gunner) on one side and an apc and tank on the other(they also had crates between them). They just stayed there for 5 minutes and raked up the kills.

that's when some spec ops guys should be getting into "mode" and running off to flank those SOBs and slap some c4 on
