I dont like chorus, know very little about so apologies if what I ask does not make sense. Here goes.

My bro in law has the basic chorus analogue package, it is on coax cable so he can send about 9 channels round the house, very handy as he can watch one ch, wife another etc. Today he was peeved again as chorus have a little trick in that they beam a live sports channel on the cable but as he is not s subcriber all he gets is a scrambled picture. BUT the bit I find hard to accept is that they are beaming it out instead of sky news so he loses sky news. This can last for a few days.

My way of thinking is that chorus are pulling a fast one and are not within their rights to do this. I think they are keen to move him to cable but he will not budge. He won't ring chorus to complain as he gets nowhere.

    What can be done?

Since they are the only people who can fix his problem he should probably call them again.

If he isn't a subscriber he isn't entitled to anything. Watching at all is theft.

Chorus /NTL analog cable or MMDS is terrible. It is also very poor value as nearly all the channels are either FTA terrestrial or FTA satellite.

Chorus/NTL can pretty much put what ever they like on the service as long as Comreg / BCI licences are not breached.

    Read your contract. :)

It says he has the basic package. I presume this means he's paying for it, and if sky news is part of the package he is paying for then if chorus aren't providing this channel but transmitting one he is not subscribed to instead, then they are really in breach of contract as the service is not as described ie. he's not getting all the channels he is paying for as part of the package, be the channels FTA, FTV or otherwise on satellite. :)

Thanks all, he is a subscriber and I think if he was watching for free he would not be too bothered. I emailed Chorus and threathened them with local TD, COMREG, and the Trading Standards, lo and behold SKY NEWS was back up and running within hours. The email reply said " has advised me that we had a
problem at our headend which affected service . The service has been repaired and a technician will not have to call to their home."

Lets hope he has a bit of peace now.

We can call that a result.

Did you actually talk to them first before the threatening email?

If so, what was the result?
    If not, why?

yeah, I'd say they were quaking in their boots. Have you no conviction in your issue or yourself as a person/consumer to be able to make your point without resorting to threats?

I recall a few years ago that when Chorus were broadcasting PPV sports fixtures they would put it on the same channel as Eurosport. They must still do it. If you brother-in-law is not a subscriber, why would a technician call out?

My experiences of Chorus Customer Service for their analogue cable service up to 2001 was the trigger for me to get an aerial up for the four Irish channels and satellite for the rest.

Calls not being returned for weeks at a time, loss of service and poor quality signal leading to virtually unwatchable picture? What's not to like about CrapUs?

Since I put up the aerial and the dish I haven't had loss of service and I get pin sharp reception on everything I need. No need to resort to TDs or Joe Duffy or whatever, simply dump the bums!

I remember Cablelink/NTL used to do this not so long ago as well. They used CNBC on 408Mhz to relay Pay-Per-View events. Used to make me angry because I'd miss a few programmes on CNBC, so I ended up getting satellite!
