Arcade Games from Mid 90's

Not sure if anyone will remember these but during mid-90's i used to go local arcade game place and partake in playing a few of the games. 2 which i used to play a lot i cannot for the life of me remember their names.

The first one was beat em-up, 2 characters i can remember was a minotaur (half bull half man) and a spiky haired punk kinda guy, the one thing i remember about it is the spiky haired guy had a special move where he would throw his opponent way way into the air and would almost crack their back across his shoulders as they came back down, as he did this, he would shout "MY ARENA !!". Remember this is mid 90's so no brilliant graphics or anything. The arena itself had spikes with heads hanging off them.

The second game is a little more vague.

Its a side scrolling beat em-up like Final Fight, Streets of Rage etc, but it was kind of set in the future, it had humans but it also had a sort of crash test dummy like character which you could choose. One part of the game was when the dummy guy would get into a huge robotic machine kinda like in Aliens and use it to destroy enemies. Thats all i can remember, not expecting much on this to be honest but any help would be appreciated.

Would love to have either of these as ROMS, any body got any ideas as to what they might be? Already posted on Retro board.

The first game you mention is almost certainly "Mutant fighter" for a few pictures take a look here...

I remember playing it in MAME ages back.

I agree with Retr0gamer on the second one. It sounds like CC or cyberbots or something. Can you give a better decription?

Read the charter. Don't ask for roms please.

Mame will run both of these games.

Sorry to post here again and sorry if im going about it the wrong way.

But i downloaded MAME in a zipped folder
I also downloaded Captain Commando ROM but the files seem a bit weird, theres files called "22c" , "23b", "24b" and "28b" and theres a readme file within this zipped folder. What do i do from here to work the game on the MAME? Are the files on the rom wrong?

I know im asking newbie questions and sorry for that but any help would be immensely appreciated, or even if someone wanted to help me through PM, thatd be great.

I'd say you're headed for a banning for even persisting in asking these questions.

I'll tell you that what you have is most likely correct, but you are missing a piece. Now use google and do your own dirty work.

A banning for asking how to set up an emulator? Don't be ridiculous! What he downloads is his business and he didn't ask for rom sites in any of his posts!
Corholio leave the files in the zip folder and put it in the ROM folder in the MAME folder. Then run Mame and select the rom from the list! You are using the GUI version of MAME yeah?

Maybe. Anyway, he most likely downloaded the MAME program -- these usually do not come with the arcade machine rom. That's another download and is usually harder to get (as it's the 'illegal' part of the equation).

If he has all these pieces then it should be easy enough to get going... I just don't think he does, and he won't find out how or where to get them on these boards.

Once again, google is your friend.

He's already said he has MAME and the ROMs...
If you've any problems setting it up post here. You wouldn't be the first person to ask about setting up an emulator and there's plenty of regular posters here to help you out.:)

Thanks Logie, how do i run the MAME program? clicking on it brings up a box which asks me to view documentation, whether i click press yes or no the program just dissapears. I put the ROM in the ROM folder of the MAME folder. What do i do next? Thanks again for taking pity on an Emulation newbie lol Also where should the list come up that i can choose the ROM from ?

Go to www.filemirrors.com and typr Mame32v.103 into the search. The download you need is 7.04MB in size.

Install the program to the location of your choice...
Now put the roms in the "ROM" folder located in the installation directory.
Now Run MAME32 and you get this....

    MAME1.JPG

    Now to configure MAME.
From the task bar choose Options - Directories... Then click the browse button and find your ROM folder and then click OK

From the task bar choose File - Properties... Then click on the controller tab and put a tick in the box if your using a game pad then click OK

Now Click on Available under All games in the left window to show you what games you have available.

Double click on the name of the game to start it.

    Type OK when prompted

Let the ROM Load then hit the TAB key to configure your controls.

That should get you going! There's plenty of other things you can tinker with like scanlines etc available from the same properties you used to choose your joypad. Play arounf with it for a couple of minutes and you'll be flying:)

K i think im almost there except i got ROMS from a certain site and when i put the zipped folder in it dosent show when i go down to the ROM folder.

    (See pic)

Also if i unzip the folder and put it in, it does show up and i choose it, and then just as you said i go back and click Available, but still no games show up.

How big should each ROM be about because a lot of them seem kinda small, like 195k etc. The files in each ROM has the symbol of a file that dosent work, what symbol should be on file?

Also how many files should be in each ROM, cos i only have 2 in mine. Should there be more? Because when i notice that when i click on a game in MAME and it searches for the game, it shows up about 20 files that havent been found.

From your picture I can tell you straight away you've not got all the ROMS you need. The ROM your looking for is 4.17 MB in size:)

Gotta say fair play to ya Logie, finally got it going, thanks for helping me along with it. Kind of a lost joy, the old arcade games, so good to play them again. I know theres been probably too many questions lol but this is the last one.

I presume MAME only plays Arcade Game ROMS, so i presume id need another emulator to play SNES, whatd be the best emulator to get to play SNES?

    Thanks again

Glad to help out. There are plenty of regular posters on the emulators forum that will help you set up any emulator you have problems with. You're not going to get banned for asking questions or mentioning the word 'ROM'....
For Snes emualtion I'd recommend Zsnes but there are others out there you can try. If you search this forum there are a few threads on the best snes emulator but starting a new thread might be a good idea:v:
