Ques re:laptops using ordinary desktop memory

    Was looking around for a laptop the other day and one of the selling points of this laptop(cannot remember which make/model)was it could be upgraded using ordinary D/T memory. Is this a common thing with laptops now and if not why not as normal laptop memory is so much more expensive and a memory upgrade can make such a difference

    No its not a normal feature, well I have never seen it before.
    why not as normal laptop memory is so much more expensive and a memory upgrade can make such a difference
    The size of the actual stick of ram, it would be hard to cram it into a laptop.

    it seems to be a common feature on some of the cheaper models of the PC World own brands, Advent, EI System, patriot, etc. They seem to have no trouble fitting them into the system, as rather than having a small flap that you unscrew on the underneath, you take off the back exposing the whole system board, it is a bit fiddly getting the sticks in as they have to be pushed in at the side rather than straight down as in a desktop
