Monitor Problems

Just trying to help out a neighbour who is having a problem with his monitor. Basically what happened is that his son bent some of the pins in the VGA cable that comes out of the monitor and connects to the PC. Some of the pins have completely broken off and others are bent up pretty badly. I opened up the monitor and removed the cable, and am just wondering is it possible to replace this part, or is he better off getting a new monitor. It is a Compaq MV 500 monitor which is about 4-5 years old. Thanks for the help!

it is possible. you can buy the parts in peats or maplin but it would involve soldering. what you'd have to do is de-solder each wire from the current vga connector and solder them to the same pin on the new one. if you're going to do it you should do it yourself or get a friend to do it because if you pay someone to do it they'd nearly charge you the price of a new monitor.

this is the part you'd need. and you should get something like this to cover it

but you said you removed the cable. if theres some way of deatching it from the circuit board without soldering you could just get a standard vga cable and cut one of the ends off

or a third possibility is its one of those monitors where the cable is detachable at both ends, then that vga cable is all you need
