or is mythical a style of poker?
anyway, so one of bohsmans posts about mythical in another thread, i've heard a fair bit about it, and i think i've seen it being played a few times in the dublin casinos. anyone got any info about it, i'll probably google in college tomorrow to pass the time, but if anyone has any hints or tips it'd be great...

    thanks!

... just a quick follow up... is the game im thinking of even called mythical? usually i see 2 or 3 people sitting at a poker table with about 10 cards in their hands and they arent paying all that much attention to eachother, just sorting cards in their hands, and from what i can tell are randomly putting cards down and picking other cards up.... did the google search for info that i said i'd leave til the morning, but found nothing quickly...

Ive seen people play it in the SE. Appears to be like gin rummy with more cards.

It's similar to gin rummy. You start with ten cards and try to make sets or straight flushes by picking up from the deck or from the cards that the player to your left discards - you pick up then discard. There are different ways of playing for money. You should pick it up - it's great for passing the time while waiting for a seat in a cash game.

Know in Galway/South Mayo area as 'Spot'

You have to pay a fee per spot, for any cards left in your hand, after the winner has won. e.g 1 euro per spot

    2 Kings left in hand = Bad €20 , 2 Aces left in hand =Good €2

    Winner collects all.

    Would this be killoukie? (Sp?)

My grandmother thought me to play this years ago, can't rightly remember the rules now, but it reminded me more of switch than poker.
players get 13 cards each, (two decks & two jokers are used).
it's similar to rummy in that you are looking to form sets of same rank cards, or runs of cards (suited), but similar to switch in that the object is to lay all your cards down. I'm sure a google on the name, if it was spelled right, would find you all the details.
Usual rule of pick up a card when you can't (or don't want to) play. The tricky bit being that you must finish from having either 1 or 3 cards in your hand.

Might not be the same game, but this is played in casinos and sounds similar to what you're describing.

Kalouki and Mythical are two similar games but Kalouki is played with 13 cards and a player can only draw from the discards if s/he has put down 40 points worth of sets.

Aces are 11, also you have one mythical card in your hand - basically an invisible 11th card that you can use to complete a set.

We play for 10c per point 1euro per game and 50c for a bonus (winning without using a mythical card) Usually played for more though.
