recent fears about advertising on boards

Ever since the texasnights debacle there has been a lot of posts saying “im not advertising but…” its almost like there is a fear of the consequences of posting the name of poker operator. My understanding of DeVore’s comments was that he is aware that many people use boards to find out info about tournaments etc in their area, but like many of us, had no time for the manner in which texasnights went about it. I have no problem if someone puts up a post saying there’s a 30euro game on this Tuesday in whatever pub being run by such and such an operator… is anyone going along? Anyone know anything about it? I cant see Dev banning u for that, surely its one of the main functions of boards.

I first started using boards to advertise a dit poker event. I used the event posting guidelines as all operators should, and there was no hassle and we got a lot of publicity out of boards alone. And I plan on using boards to advertise future events and I think many users will be glad as they will know about an event that they may not have previously been aware. I have even used boards to advertise last minute STT games in college, and gotten two or three people at a time from boards….

Only recently vegasnights advertised their team event and its easily the most popular thread going at the moment… the fitz and the merrion and now the se are constantly being mentioned… imagine if people were worried about advertising the SE, there’d be no more post game analysis posts such as “so I played the SE 75 double chance last night, and did I play the following hand wrong, any thoughts?” instead we’d get “so I played a game in a place I cant mention cos I don’t wanna advertise, this hand happened…” its not as much fun…

Ultimately my point is that people shouldn’t be worried about posting information about games etc etc, but I 100%, completely agree that the manner in which texasnights did it merits at minimum the one month ban given by devore.

lol... yes, I just despise underhand tactics and people thinking they are pulling the wool over my eyes etc.

Its not like I go mental on people posting info, on another forum I would but this isnt like normal forums, I understand that these companies need to make money to put on these tournies to the level we expect. And that we want/need this info for the community to grow. I'm prepared to look the other way and allow them a platform to inform us.
But that doesnt make me their bitch nor allow them to deceive and hoodwink us.

I think "common sense" is really the watch word, I mean, the vast majority of people interact here fine. its the liars I dont like.

And its confirmed in person that Avon1 works for TN. Headshot. :)

So Avon1 only works for TN, would the boss be impressed with the "underhand" tactics used to advertise. Or has (s)he even been informed?

Eh, I don't usually post in this poker forum, but would it make sense to make a sticky for people wanting to advertise their tournies, so, if your bored, you look there, but if not, you don't have to put up with any cr4p?

Also you could hand out 1 month bans for anyone who doesn't comply.

Just a suggestion. I don't go to these things, as I'm useless, so I just play with a few mates.

i think while that could work in theory, i think in practice it'd cause problems. people advertising their events want optimum exposure, tehy get more exposure from a stand-alone thread, if all events are in the same thread the power of the advert is lost in amongst the clutter.

And the discussions would get mixed. I dont have a great deal of problem with people who answer our questions (as stickied) and post their tournament details.

Also any regular events are going to be calendared on antesup (arent they Mike! :p) and major events are previewed there too. (We're getting better at that).

Things work reasonably ok here, just not when people break the rules.

    DeV.
