Hi I signed up to do a bungee jump for charity recently. At the time i knew i could be dangerous, but now i'm hearing all these things such as peoples retenas popping and people having back problems for life after jumping. are these stories true and if they are is there anything i can do to prevent it from happening to me

apparently my cousin hurt his innards when he bungeed on hols, but i still did it anyway, but i didn't dive i sorta jumped and had a bit of snap at the bottom of the swing, it wasn't a pleasant experience but I still had to do it and would do it again from higher... :)

oh and a friend worked at park in the US and did 40 in 3 months , didn't affect her.

You'll be grand. Spent a few years in New Zealand and most of the people i knew had done one without any problems.
This is the one i done http://www.taupobungy.co.nz/
Like yourself i heard the stories but i don't know anyone who has suffered any injuries.

cheers thanks for that lads. sounds like theres going to be some buzz when i do it. one thing that i'm especially concerned about however is the strain it puts on your joints. especially the knees. I had a accident a few years back and they haven't been the best since.

Bungee Jumping can be dangerous in the wrong hands like any extreme sport , where are you jumping ... I would check and see first if the company has the correct insurance and what other events they have done.

Most of the injuries caused by jumping are from using the incorrect type of bungee cords , if they use shock cords they only have 10% stretch and that's how people get back issues and detached retina's etc , these are cheap to buy and my experience is if the company is scrimping on the ropes what else are they saving on , this is your life line and should be of the highest quality , we use 100% rubber cords with 400% stretch its a nice ride and easy on your limbs at most you might get blood shot eyes no worse than few pints .

I have been a bungee professional instructor for 12 years now and never seen any accidents.

    Enjoy your jump

Thanks for that. I'm doing it in carlow during our rag week. I don't know anything about the company who is doing it but, after your post I'll be sure to find all that information out.
