bb and windows update

got westlink bb in couple weeks ago,its wireless like ibb with a cable straight to pc lan card without router,first off ,would it be better to have router and which on and is is biggy can't get on certain site like windows update and overclockers.co uk.any have this problem and how you sorted it cheers
