Some hand histories from the final table of the $3K game on Tribeca last night, like all tribeca games descended into a bit of a crapshoot towards the end. Ended up finishing 3rd but really dissapointed that I didn't win it. Fought back from being short stack three times including when down to the last 3 and then threw it all away in two hands.

Would appreciate comments on my initial action and how you would have played out the hand differently...

Raise too small here? Is it even warranted in the first place?

There were a few key hands during the tournament, the one below sticks in my memory and really set me up for a money finish. at this stage there were 26 players left and I was around average stack, this hand doubled me up...

Blinds are 400/800 and I've 10k and I'm on the BB. All fold around to the SB who completes. I'm holding Th9c and check.

    Pot 1,600
    Flop comes down
    Kh Td 7h

SB checks and I bet 1,600, SB calls

    Pot 4,800
    Turn
    4s

SB checks and I bet 5K, he uses all his time and flat calls..at this point I'm worried about the K, but I really believe he would have come over the top of me if he had the K, flush draw maytbe

    Pot 14.8K

    River
    7c

SB bets 3K more and I've got 2.6K left...auto call at this point. He turns over A6h for A high chasing the nut flush draw! Doubled me up and gave me enough chips to rob blinds and get into the money places.

    Yikes, long post.

Here's how what I would have done I think (very quickly)

Hand 1 TT ... Would have mucked it, wrong hand at the wrong time in a tourney.
Hand 2 JJ ... Moved all in as you did.
Hand 3 KT ... easy fold
Hand 4 QT ...hmmm, I'm only playing hands strongly from now on, as Skies is going to make a move so a fold or larger raise, I hate min raises they price everyone in.

1 Push or Fold - But i'm leaning towards a push
    2 Push
    3 Fold
4 Fold - Depending on the read on the player

I would have played the TT like you did -- you have less than 10BB, this is not the right time to be folding. Raise and call a reraise is good, you need the action. Push with the jacks is good. Fold the KTo.

    [Jan 24 01:24:20] : golly called 6,000 and raised 12,000

    [Jan 24 01:24:21] : Stakes: 3,000/6,000 Current level: 14 Level up in: 3 min. Break in: 2 min. Players : 3

In a situation like this, before I raise, I like to have a very clear idea what I will do if (a) the big stack raises all in or (b) the small stack raises all in. Making it 18,000 is good so long as you are planning to call the small stack's all in.

Hand 1: I play it the exact same, you want the chance to double up. The blinds are not enough with this hand IMHO.

Hand 2: Easy Push, should get called.

Hand 3: Fold to the re-raise.

Hand 4: Depending on read I'm folding here too. I get the feeling you might have tried stealing one too many by this point and they are pushing back with any A or possibly even K, sure keep the pressure on, but don't let them think you're raising with any 2 all the time. I like to try the odd flat call with a playable hand such as Q10 or K10 just to mix it up.

The 1st hand seems to be the only one we don't agree on it seems.

Don't get me wrong, I'm prepared to stick in my chips when the time is right, I don't like the push with 10 10 on a full table from early position.
I know from the hand histories they held up.

I guess I'm just too much of a rock.;)

If he was 6BB's yes push ...... 9BB's ... I'm 'himming and hawwing', but I'm folding.

It is a problem having TT UTG, but my thinking is that pushing, guarantees that you'll only be called by AJ+ or a high pair. But raising gives someone the option to push back over the top hoping you were on a steal. This might be a small % of the time, but I still think it increases your EV of the hand than a simple push. Obviously if you've decided that this is the hand that you're all-in with. I think it just increases the hand range of your opponents, even if only slightly, but would (or could) increase the EV of the move. Having said that playing TT UTG may never have +EV in others opinion, but here's a little more detail behind my theory.

My thoughts are that a push will only be called (by a similar stacked player) with an over pair or 2 over cards, in which case it's a 50:50 at best, I don't mind the 50:50 shot. But in general I don't like it if I'm called. An UTG raise will win the blinds here nearly as often as a push, but I agree, I'd prefer the push if I had maybe 5 or 6BB's left.

But by simply raising, IMHO, an aggressive player might re-raise over the top with a small pair, (hoping for a 50:50), a weak A hoping for KQ, etc., but certainly with a wider range then the hands that will call the push.

If you add these increased hand range into the mix, I think the EV increases, and normally I prefer calling the re-raise All-in from an aggressive player, then pushing from this position. Also if the uber rock sitting beside you re-raises then you can possibly drop them. But I just think it gives you more options than pushing.

I'm sure their will be counter arguments against this, making it a -EV move, but just my 0.02c. It's probably just my style of play but at these times I'm trying to turn my medium stack into a big stack so I can take down first place. May increase variance alright but I'd be interested in others opinions on this....

with 10 bbs you should be pushing any pair from any position, so to raise with it normally is actually overrepresenting your hand IMO. An utg push will often get called by any pair, AT and so on.
