Looking for reccomendations for a good model that plays both video and music. Which of the I-Rivers are best for this?

    Thanks in advance

Does it have to be an iriver?

    What about the Cowon A2?

Probably the best MP3/MP4 player available at the moment. I'm strongly considering trading in my iAudio X5L 30GB for the 30GB model of the A2 at the moment. Will cost me about an extra €130 at trade prices... but probably well worth it.

    Anyone got one of these?

I haven't upgraded to one of these new-fangled ones (AV500/700) yet, but still oh-so-happy with my AV420 (check linkie in my sig for pix).

It's a 'real' portable video solution, in that it plays a whole sh1tpot-full of formats (audio/video) very few of which need recoding, and the TV-recording function is a killer (after ripping your old wedding and kiddies VHS to it and burning them on DVD, just get rid of your VCR - totally redundant!).

The 4xx series is getting seriously cheap on eBay these days as well, and there isn't much the 500 series does over that (not putting the 500 down, note - it's just a thought re. budgeting) so you might consider that. Oh yeah - saw a 700 in airport recently - it is fuppin' HUGE, nearly as big as a tablet PC  , talk about the designers forgetting the purpose of the thing

Another which hasn't been talked about much on Boards (usually i-river this and that :D;) ) is the Shinco PMP 1700. Pretty much comparable to the Archos 4/5 series, but in clamshell format (e.g. portable DVD player), with 7" widescreen TFT. Am looking at that for an upgrade as well, but waiting to run into one to check build quality. T3 are saying very good things about it.

Yep,my mate brought one home from China the other day,the screen (2'5"i think) is unbelievable and it looks real sexy.

The res on the screen is as good as Archos' AV420 (my own MP4 player)but for all day use the creative is a bit more practical.

The other uppside on the archos is the screen is bigger(3.5" and 4.5"),you may not think it, but these extra couple of inches make a hell of a differance when your watching a movie.

Depends what you use it for more really.

If you want to rip your old VHS to digital its the mutts nutts. And viewing phoos are a doddle
