    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone can give a bit of advice. At the moment the CPU Usage is at 100% though there is nothing running. There are 39 processes going. The computer is really slow. Please forgive the simpleness of the explantion but I dont know an awful lot about stuff like this. There was a popup a few weeks back about trojan infection but I havent seen it since, so I dont know the exact name of it. Is there any way of finding out whats wrong, ie a name of a virus and way of removing it. I have run Norton AV but it brought back nothing,so Im at a loss what to do.
    Any help would be great:)

    thanks for the replies

In that thread where is says close each task down, does that mean each process?

    Yes, it means each process.

But if you look through the list you should be able to see which process is using 99% CPU.

Then its just a matter of closing the process and finding out what the process relates to.

Let us know how you get on

You can also sort by processor usage by clicking on the relevant column, that should finger the culprit straight away.

My bet is on "findfast.exe". Anyone give me odds?

And when there were no apps running, the processes went like this

    explorer.exe - 15000
    svchost.exe - 10000
    SpySweeper.exe - 10000
    WRSSSDK.exe - 7700
    avgcc.exe - 6300
    ccApp.exe - 5600

there are 41 processes altogether. When I close down each process it has no affect on the usage and the computer is still slow

    Run Process Explorer.

It will show you exactly what is hogging all the CPU.

Ive just run that program and apparently spoolsv.exe is using about 90% of the CPU. Can i just end this or does anyone know what it is. Again all the help is much appreciated

Thats the printer spool. Could be a print job that's gone wrong.

Sometimes a worm can infect the file. So make sure your anti virus is up to date and scan the file.

I'd uninstall any printers and reboot. See how that works.

    This page has more info

Edit: My money is on a print job "stuck". I think some people are getting confused with a virus that creates a file called spoolserv.exe.

Edit2: This link shows how to clean uninstall printer drivers.

    Sorry for all the edits!

    hey,

Ive end the spoolsv.exe process and the CPU Usage goes back down to 2%, so thats definitely the problem. But after a few mintes the process starts up again. Im gonna uninstall the driver and reinstall and hopefully that fixes it.

Thanks again, wish I knew more about this kind of stuff
