Didn't know this forum was here so this is my first post in it.

Took first place in the Stone House in Navan on Thursday last. 20 Euro entry. I think there was 78 people at it. The turning point for the night was when I was big blind and only had 4500 chips and the blind was 5000. I had j 9. Small blind folded and had two callers. I won with a pair of nines. About 5 mins later I had about 80,000 chips and could do no wrong. Ended up at the final table in a very strong position. Played tight/aggressive and knocked out a few. At the heads up the other player just went all in on every hand. So he kept taking the blinds. I called with a pair of sixes not the kinda hand I'd normally call an all in with but the fact that he was taking the blinds everytime I had to do something he had A 3. When I seen the A I was not too happy. He flopped a 3 and the turn and river done nothing that was it I won with the 6's and ended the tourney right there. I won 1500 cash and a 500 euro ticket to the grand final. I'll let you know how I do in that. :D

Nice one! Not a bad return for a €20 tourney!

A 500 euro ticket to the grand final of what tournament?

Welcome to Poker forum and Congrats on win.

it's not CPT i think its just a locally run tourney, by the stone house themselves i'll go over later and check it out, ( i work in navan)

Any Pocket Pair is a pretty decent hand heads up, just to let you know. You want him pushing in front of you. Congrats on the win. The first one is always great :)

Thanks Fathead, would appreciate it... BigD, I dunno, technically something very weird going on. Could be paranoia but then it pays to be paranoid :)

Will be interesting to find out. I mean a €500 buy in tourney is big bucks in fairness, so the organisors are holding alot of money 'in trust' for the ticket winners.

One of these days something is gonna go 'bang' and the poker scene will get tarnished, cos some cowboy outfit has pulled a scam.

Didn't one of the pub tourney promoters continuously (miraculously:rolleyes: ) get robbed a few nights of their prize money, although CCTV footage couldn't identify any intruders?

(Not in anyway labelling the Stone House in that way, but a general point)

I think the tourney organisers are either JJP Poker Mania or its the Stone House themselves, as I have customised chips for both these guys. From all accounts I have got they seem ok and run a good night, JJP that is. As regards to Stone House I have no idea, but i would think its a in house tourney and the ticket is to one of JJP larger games. I think they may have a partnership going with the pub maybe.

As for as i know it is a crowd called TexasNights who run the StoneHouse gig.

I used to help some people (lurkers on this forum!) run a different tournament in Navan, and from talking to punters at that tournament, the TexasNights gig was thought to be well-run.

Although, having said that, the tournie format is an all-in fest. The typical thing being 20euro buy-in and 10euro unlimited rebuys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,047 ✭✭✭Culchie

    OMG.

The same TexasNights that got 'robbed' on several occassions by the Phantom !!

I'd much rather the 500 per player in my pocket, and pay for entry fee for any tourney they have coming up, rather than have €500 in trust to them !!

d'oh - wish i'd read the earlier post about TexasNights being banned from the forum for dishonest behaviour regarding forum.

my previous post is not an endorsement of them - i'm sure they are a reprehensable crowd (if it is TexasNights who run the StoneHouse, which i'm fairly certain it is).

I knew that Roundtower2 .... I just hope OP cops on to it as well.

Those tournaments are not run by Stonehouse anyway. I drink there and noticed some company name on the poster for weekly? competition.

Can you find out for me kc66 because I'd like to know.

BigD, yeah officially were at DeVcon 2. The ip traces dead and the whole thing from a tech point of view stinks. Almost every IP in Ireland has been used on boards at some stage but the OP's hasnt and goes nowhere. I'm going to sniff around some more and perhaps turn up to a TN evening. Not to play you understand.... but I'll have some fun all the same.

One swift phonecall from Denmark later, its JJP who run it. I have met the JJP blokes a while ago and while they were as green as Cheech and Chong's produce, they seemed to be decent skins. I've never been to their events but I can't say I've heard anything bad about them either.
It would explain why the pot wasnt raped but our new arrival best be on the level because I'm getting the weirdest traceroute from his ip...

Will you be sliding over any car bonnets to 70's music while you try and bust the bad guys? I'd nearly go to Navan myself to see that.

You must understand, this is one of the most FUN parts of this job. The sound of silence down the telephone when you phone INSANE RAGE (or his mummy) is gratifying beyond belief.

People who abuse this site for their own fncking selfish ends get right up my already oversized hooter! Hangin's too good for them.

Turning them into play things for my amusement is their way of paying me back for the time they waste. "Glenstal" has to be my finest hour, if you've ever wanted utter revenge on some ignorant little keyboard warrior who thinks he's safe to say vitriolic sh*t because he's behind a keyboard, read that thread (music forum). I've always hated cowards and selfish fncktards, I dunno what it is, its like a red rag to an otherwise congenial bull.

Why can't we all work towards building something totally cool??? Why do some people have to be dicks? I dunno, I think I'm a disillusioned hippy. :)
(Am I sounding like Doc on a bender yet or what?)

Basically some ignorant little rich kid in an extremely posh boarding school repeatedly "waged war" on Boards.ie. Eventually I got p*ssed off with him and asked the feedback and music forums to email his headmaster. (I traced him back to his school and looked up their website, not all that hard actually).

Within an hour I was phoned by the IT manager of the school and asked to halt the deluge. They got something in the region of 100 mail an hour which was causing the genuine mail in the head's inbox to be effectively spammed out of it. I refused until the head phoned me himself, we talked about it, the lad had his internet access revoked and was suspended for two days. At which point we ceased sending him mails.
That was about 3 years ago I think.

If we were to do that now, their mail server would probably break. :)

In my time I've phoned several "mommies", a few bosses, we've taken a picture of one cyber-warrior who swore we'd never find him through the webcamera on the website of the cyber cafe he was using (circled it in red with a big arrow point at him and the text "You Are Here" on it).
We also caught Esat pretending to be an accountacy company in the midlands and slating Eircom's broadband. I kid you not, the Director of Marketing (afaicr) was caught doing it and I gave whotshisname Murphy a repeated bollocking via email. She was transferred to the ISDN dept. (look in IOFFL for Aprils fool, she got caught and gave away her identity without checking which account she was auto logged into...)

More seriously I've had one paedophile traced and apparently he lead the Harcourt street team to a group of about 10 of them who all got busted (that alone makes me very happy, though standing next to huge brown boxes of "evidence" was one of the most disturbing things I've experienced in my life).
I had to file a police report on a user who wrote and published a rape fantasy about a fellow female student in UL.

I've been harrassed by the provos, filed by the CIA and threatened by the Nazis.

All of this just as a regular Joe Soap who wanted a place where people with common interests could exchange information. Seems like such a innocent idea!

    Mad isnt it?

ps: this isn't a "woo I'm great" post, this is just to indicate that the "freedom" you perceive yourself to have...its not as real as you think and its worth fighting for. The second you start to try to do anything in this country (or probably any country) you have people who want to break it, fnck with it, steal it or use it for their own selfish ends. Not all of them I mean, look at our Mods, BSOP, BCOOP, etc. Look at SSF and response from people out there. But all the same, the nasty toxic people? yeah, I hate them because they drag the others down and retard humanities progress because they are dicks.

    Here endeth the sermon. :)

hmmm sorry about not getting back to you all but it's run by JJP Poker Mania. the 100,000 tourney is next Jan and there was actually an entry to another poker night as well where you get so many chips for finishing in the last table i got 2500 for finishing first. It was on again this thursday night and there was about 65 people there this time. I came second this time around and won 750 euro plus another 2000 chips which gives me 4500 chips so far i think next week is the last one to win chips for that tourney and it's on then the following sat. There was also a bounty on my head because I won last week which I got myself because I was not knocked out . Time was called at 1:30 there was a chip count with 3 of us left.
The JJP guys are very good I couldn't find anything wrong with them.
