I don't know whether this is the righr forum so mods feel free to move it.

Is there any way of fixing stratched CD's. I've got a brand new game, it wouldn't load up, took it out it was dusty. After I cleaned I noticed that it had a dozen stratches

I'm doing computing and our architecture lecturer was saying a few weeks ago that's there's this device you can buy that takes off the first layer of the cd-rom (or game in your case) so you get rid of the scratches. Can't remember what he said it was called but i'll find out for you tomorrow.

Or somebody else might get there before me?!

by mr. pledge dust gettin rid of spray (sorry can't think of the exact name) and spray some on the cd, then rub it in with your finger, allwor to sit for a few seconds and then dab off excess polish with a dry soft cloth and then rub the rest of it off. usually works for me

Buy some autoglym paint rejouvinator (spell), that will polish the first layer off.

Brian stop your worrying buddy, you've come to the right place. After Hours is full of Jimmy Savilles waiting to fix it for you and you and you and you

First off head into your bathroom with the aforementioned scratched CD
Second off, take your tube of Colgate down from your shelf and squeeze a bit (about the size of a bean) onto your wee fingers.

Now with a soft cloth start rubbing the toothpaste into the scratched area. Don't do what Pighead does and start thinking of your girlfriend as this will lead you to start applying the toothpaste in a circular motion. Circular motions are wrong for this procedure.

Now as long as your scratch wasn't too bad your CD is working again.Seeing as your in the bathroom and you've got the Colgate in your hand may I also recommend that you scrub those teeth of yours. It's no use having fine quality CDs if you've got mouldy yellow teeth.Talk soon. Let Pighead know how brilliantly the toothpaste worked.

Is it just cologate or does that extra-whitening toothpaste work also.
I must try blowing smoke on a cd to see what effect that smokers toothpaste has.

And I thought that toothpaste was only good for covering up love bites....

You can use Vineger also in the same method Pighead mentioned for toothpaste!

Just to add to what pighead said. You must rub the CD in straight lines from the centre to the edge, or vice versa. It will probably take a good bit of rubbing before it'll make any difference. Basically what you're tryin to do is wear down the plastic around the scratch so the the scratch isn't as deep.

Although what I'd actually do seeing as it's a new game is bring it back and tell tham you want a fυcking new one that isn't covered in poxy scratches!

Return it and say it was scratched when you got it out of the box.

Tooth paste has worked loads of times for me as long as the the scratches arent deep enough to reach the data.

i can vouch for this method. many a cd/ps2 game has been saved by the tiny particles of flouride contained within a tube of toothpaste.

if this fails, at least your disc will smell nice and wont have plaque.
