Im hoping to travel Europe this summer. Obviously the itnerrailing option is considered the best value. But there is alot of time spent travelling so I looked into flying around Europe and I was very surprised with the results.

Heres the trip I planned for two people.

August 21st Dublin to Barcelona €195 Aer Lingus

August 24th Barcelona to Paris €58 Ryanair

August 27th Paris to Amsterdam €189 Air France

August 29th Amsterdam to Prague €148 Smart Wings be sure to check these out for cheap travel around the continent

August 31st Amsterdam to Rome €141 Smart Wings

September 1st Rome to Dublin €158 Aerlingus(might be Ryanair either will check asap)

    Total €888

    Each €444

Im curious to know if people think this matches/surpasses or doesnt even come close to inter railing in terms of value, time spent travelling and comfort.

Also has anyone spent so much time on and off a plane in such a short period of time? how draining would this be?

I realise inter railing offers unlimited travel, but if i did go the inter railing route i doubt i would overuse the unlimited travel. ie I would just get from city to city in one direction.

hmm....definitely more comfortable i reckon. but it would be more restrictive in a sence, because with interail u always have the option of staying in any particular place as long as u like.

but in terms of price u found some good deals there

barcelona i'd leave till last because its such a hard place to leave. the pace of life and such make it a comfortable place to be.

all great places to see though, so yeah if u dont mind flying alot u have a good deal there

well the route i have taken is probably the cheapest, i.e. it starts in the west and works its way east across europe. i havent tried it the other way, ie start dublin to rome and finish in barcelona.

barcelone, paris, amsterdam and rome are cities i definitely want to see. is prague worth visiting? anyother city in europe i should stop off in?

prague is the only city on ur list i havent been to yet :) sorry man. but its definitely on my list, because of all the great things ive heard about the place.

cant really suggest any other major citys instead, u have a good selection there, all the must see places really.

    is prague worth visiting?

in terms of beauty and fun yes
I consider Paris to be the most beautiful city in europe, follow by Rome and Prague in third place

agreed, paris and rome are great for just walking about and taking in everything u see.

paris just has a nice charm about it, even if its lashing rain. avoiding the tourist areas is a good idea, the smaller streets and markets are the best part of the city imo

i dont think theres anything in prague i want to see, it just seems everybody recommends it. so i might include it. the route i picked avails of cheap flights because each flight on the continent is a short distance. if i take prague out the flight from amsterdam to rome becomes incredibly expensive.

similarly with the other locations if i was for example to take paris out the flight from barca to amsterdam would be expensive.

I love gothic architecture and Prague has bags of it, even their pubs and the b & b I stayed in was gothic.
it's also a great place to party
