SKy+ connecting to HD / DVD recorder?

I have a nice 36" Panasonic TV with Panasonic 6.1 home theatre equipment. So far so good.... but I'm currently living in the dark ages with just NTL cable, basic package (not digital).

... NTL analogue signal is not crystal clear, has been that way for sometime, especially Ch4. Even the RTEs have a slow line/bar moving up the screen if you look carefully. It's starting to bug me. I'm assuming telling NTL about this will not yield anything bar making me upgrade to NTL digital. But I don't like the menu system with NTL Digital.

...Kids are getting a little older now and enjoy all those Nick Jr/Toons...etc. in Grandad's house so am under pressure there.

...I'd like the ability to record to DVD from time to time.

...I like the idea of SKY+ (haven't experienced it) and assume the menu system is pretty good, especially when it comes to simple setting of recording.

...I'd like to upload the existing Kids' DVDs onto a HD device.

    So my question is this:

Is the easiest option (ignoring cost for the mo') to buy SKY+ and a good DVD R/W to plug into it.

    Does that combo work?
    Does it need any hacking?
Can I get the existing DVDs onto the Sky+ HD?
Should I include a HD in the mix for that purpose?
Can all those devices hook up/exist together?

So I guess that's more than 1 question, but hopefully you get an incling of what I'm chasing.

    Al opinions welcome, Thanks!

Sky+ and dvd recorder will work perfectly in tandem for archiving recordings from the + box to dvd's. No hacking is required, however this is done in analogue form, i.e. you cannot hook the + box and dvd recorder via usb and perform a quick transfer. Sadly you cannot upload anything onto the + box nor do I think sky will ever release software to do this. A seperate HD doesn't really factor into the equation, unless you hook it upto a pc and transfer your dvd recordings to it, but it wont be able to used in conjunction with the + box whatsoever, unless you just plan to take out + box's hard drive and replace it with a bigger one.
